Longford Town are on the verge of signing Irish under 21 international Brian Shelley.

The former Bohs star is available on a free transfer, having been released by the Dublin club at the end of last season, and the midlanders are set to swoop for his signature.

Shelley would jump at the chance of a move to Longford, especially considering that their three-times-a-week training sessions take place in the capital.

The highly-rated player had lined up a switch to English club Carlisle but that has fallen through due to the turmoil at Brunton Park and the sacking of manager Roddy Collins.

Longford caretaker boss Alan Matthews is now ready to cash in. Matthews is also in the hunt for another former Bohs man, Dean Brennan, who had spells with Luton Town and Sheffield Wednesday:

"I’ve spoken to Brian and I’d be interested to see what his thinking is. We had Dean training with us on Tuesday and we’ll look at him again."
