The only reason I wouldn't have them banned is because I believe in free speech.

So they should be free to spout their murder and murderer-glorifying hate filled muck.

Worth noting that if there was a thread on say, a Norn Iron supporters forum about the Wolfe Tones loyalist mirror image Platoon (and I mean mirror image -right down to the chavvy urban redneck handle bar moustache action) it'd be held up as incontravertable evidence of what a bunch of sectarian bigots they are.

But with ours ...sure it's only a bit of craic isn't it.

right down to the chavvy urban redneck handle bar moustache action

ya, whats that about, I remember the first time I went to see them in the Lord Nelson, and all these fellas with slick back hair and handle bar moustaches, it was a rather frightening experience, cos it felt like at any stage a huge fight would erupt.

Btw Lionel, where do they state about killing protestants or presbyterians or masons or whatever?? in fairness songs such as
you know us by our noise
where up to our necks in fenian blood is far more hate filled and sectarian than any wolfe tones song i know or have listened to.

That's whataboutery in fairness Paul. And just because themmuns have songs that are "more hate filled" doesn't make the WTs stuff any less filled with hate itself.

We'll fight them British Soldiers for the cause
We'll never bow to Soldiers because
Troughout our history We were born to be free
So get out British *******s leave us be

Hmmm ...lovely.

ya fair point, but where in that song does it say anything about killing or reveling in blood.

i dont think you can put them on the same level of obscenity and vulgarism

Paul, I'm not arsed quoting any more lyrics from them as sooner or later someone'll accuse me of being selective and taking them out of context.
Google them yourself if you're unfamiliar with their stuff.

A lot of it's just plain dreadful poetry inspired by cornflakes box history...but plenty of it is quite ugly indeed.

I see no difference between what they do and what Klan Kountry bands or Nazi Skinhead bands like Six Million More do. It's incitement to hatred -plain and simple.

i am completely familiar with their stuff lionel, why would you think otherwise?

anyhow doesnt matter.

The Tones dont sing Go On Home, I dont think.
Eire OG, Sibeen, the Old Brigade etc are far more hardcore.

What I don't like about the Wolfe Tones, apart from their music, is the slack-jawed yockle in-bred so-called republicans (who by definition of the word republican are anything but) who follow them.

Agree 100%.

Was at one of the gigs whilst visiting cousins in dublin about 4 or 5 years ago. their very good a what they do, but I have never any compulsion to go to one of their gigs as the majority crowd they attract are idiots. Most of who don't have any clue about the histroy of the country.

but they are ppl that I never see anywhere in ireland or anywhere else for that matter, only at wolfe tone gigs. its weird. its like they crawl out from under beds and stuff. and head for a wolfe tone gig.

One of the Warfield brothers left the Band and set up his own Group and whose posters advertising gigs lead you to believe you're going to see the original Band as it says in "**** Warfield" in small writing and then -"of the Wolfe Tones" in huge letters.(the other 3 are still going and are what most people think of when they say the name of the group)

Very limited appeal imo.

Quite possibly. Though Celtic FC have banned The Wolfe Tones/Continuity Wolfe Tones from having any involvement in official Celtic functions or events as part of the SPLs give sectarianism the boot initiative.

This is the same Celtic , whose fans booed Arteta for the whole time that he was on the pitch in the friendly on Sunday last.

Yeah but he'd be a Catholic wouldn't he? meaning it wasn't sectarianism

purely football rivalry lads , in fairness to arteta he wasn't fased in any way , it was his best ever performence at celtic park thats for sure!! gatting back to the tones , so they havent re-formed ?? they always struck me as money grabbers and the fallout from the break up seems to back that up. "Give me your hand" is their best track and "let the people sing" but as paul said they seemed to attract some serious individuals to their gigs!!
