Red carded after the match ? didn't see the match so didn't get a chance to see what went on, a fight a i presume. If they were stright red's then i take it they will miss both matches against Red Star ?

Posted about this in the CL updates thread. Very confusing at the moment. Werent actually shown red cards and only found out about it today. Still not sure why as no reason given in referees report apparently.

Obviously something got to do with the fight but didnt see anything happen on the pitch that would single them out.

Apollon players and fans were scumbags the whole game.

Disappointing that Danny and Joe reacted to something if thats what happened.

Huge loses against Red Star

I really hope so. And flyyny being available is vital too. With our strongest team out i honesly dont think we'd beat Red Star(but was looking forward to giving them a good game)...never mind saying now :(

Cork City's Joe Gamble and Danny Murphy are set to miss at least one game each after UEFA confirmed on their website that the two players were among four red carded after last night's Champions League 1st Qualifying round 2nd Leg tie against Apollon Limassol.

There were ugly scenes after the final whistle as a row erupted on the pitch. It now seems that two of Cork's players will be ruled out for at least the first leg against Red Star Belgrade while the seriousness of a red card after the final whistle is very likely to result in at least a two game ban for each player.

The red card for Murphy marks third of the season and the second he has managed to collect after full-time.
The news will further expose Cork's small squad and inexperienced players will now have to be introduced as replacements.

NOT good news what so ever !

Woeful statistic - obviously hasn't learned at all from the previous incident - can't understand how players can let themselves get involved in stuff like this - the game was over, Cork had won - why go get yourself sent off after fulltime?

Yeah shocking to get sent off after full time, but twice ! FFS how stupid is that, Rico should comer down hard on him. He was lucky to stay on the pitch against us earlier in the season. Was booked for absolutely lashing the minesman out of it and then had some very rash tackles let go by the ref.

To be fair he didnt start anything. Im not certain what exactly he did but he was not involved by choice. Im not saying he was right to react if thats what happened but its not like he went looking for trouble.....he was bloody assaulted by their officials

He always had the option of going down holding his face, or some other body part - would have been better than retaliating. I accept that he didn't start it but as you say, he wasn't right to react.

UEFA don't even seem to know!

According to that, Cork made a substitution after the sendings off.

Whatever about Gamble, who i have a lot of respect for, Danny Murphy is a hot headed little fück. He was lucky to be still on the pitch for the final whistle in the first place.

I wonder will Rico be handing out two weeks wages fines for the boys for their stupidity.

I don't blame the cork players, they were attacked and were defending themselves, hopefully the ref gives the right report!

I agree with you but i dont think he reacted straight away. We didnt see it happen on the pitch but people are saying the red cards were given for something happening in the tunnel. I dont see how this happened though as the city players came to the fans before leaving, unless Apollon players and officials were waiting for them in the tunnel.

And i cant ever see Danny going down holding his face etc unless hed no other choice. May not be a good thing in some cases.

The fact that Joe was involved as well is what makes me wonder what actually happened. Danny may have a temper but Joe certainly isnt known for his. It mustve been fairly serious

you could see something happening from far off on TV, but the camera's wouldn't zoom in on it. It was mentioned by Ger Canning, so what happened, happened on the pitch.

Watch RTÉ news tonight, they might have got the footage!?

Also did anyone see Dan Murry's 'dive' as a joke after an Apolleon player went down? One of the funniest things I've seen in football, and he got a yellow card for his troubles :)

Joe seemed to be unahappy with the Apollon players diving during the game. Maybe because he was already wound up by them was why he ended up taking out his frustrations?(I don't know for sure what happened but as micls it must have had something to do with the altercation)

Was hilarious.......but it showed up the ref given that was the only dive he booked the whole game

Serious question. Can a referee write up a red card in his report without showing a red card to the player??

If it happened in the tunnel then he probably did show a red card to the players, the cameras just didn't see it.

Cork players wouldn't have gone to the tunnel for a good while after. The scuffle was on the pitch, then the players went down the other end to the fans.
The Apolleon would have to have been waiting for them for a few mins to get them in the tunnel.

When can they appeal?

If they can afford to.

There's a lot of expense involved in appealing. I know Bohs didn't bother after Molloy got sent off against Kaiserslautern because of cost.
Maybe it's changed since then, but I doubt it.

Was too difficult to see at the match as down the far end but they showed brief clips on cypriot tv & was all handbags stuff just pushing & shoving.

The Cypriots were disgraceful with shower of bottles, coins, flags thrown onto the pitch during the game (opposite side to tv cameras) & absolutely no stewards or police available. I think because they had a moath didn't bother.

Andy Needham being hit by a bottle with surely mean tough action by Uefa?

I'd give them close to no chance tomorrow night if they don't have Gamble and O'Callaghan. Colin O'Brien is no more than workmanlike and Softic (should they bring him in) is obviously grossly inexperienced for a game of this nature. At least O'Flynn is playing, which gives them the option of playing Fenn/Behan somewhere else, though that would hardly be ideal. If ever they needed Georgie it is now.

Ouch. As BohsFans said, there must have been some reasoning? I'm assuming the fine was for appealing a case without merits or something?

Not only has the appeal failed - Uefa has INCREASED the players' ban to two games each. This seems desperately unfair.

€5,000 is a fairly substantial fine. Will Rico keeo to Georgie form and make the lads pay themselves :)

Seems like karma for all the GAA appeals that have gone Cork's way. If City had Frank Murphy pleading their case they'd probably be given a walkover against Red Star!

I saw a clip on tv & just looked like pushing & shoving. Could see no punches thrown anyway.

I know it wouldn't affect our punishment but would be good to see Uefa punish the cypriots for throwing coins, bottles, lighters & flags (bit strange) onto the pitch at City players.

O'Brien is not suspended.

Possible teams

Devine
Lordan Bennet Murray Horgan
O'Donovan O'Brien Softic Woods
Fenn O'Flynn/Behan

Devine
Horgan Bennet Murray Woods
- O'Donovan O'Brien Softic
--------- Fenn
----- O'Flynn Behan

Softic is like a direct replacement for O'Callaghan - he even looks like him only not so skinny.
