The European U19s Championships started in Poland yesterday.

Am I right in thinking it was Turkey who knocked us out in May? They lost 5-3to Spain.

The Scots, who beat France to qualify, were 2-0 up against Portugal but drew 2-2. The top 3 in each group qualify for next year's World Championships.

I hope Scotland do it. They've got their act together at underage level and have good young players playing for the better SPL clubs too.

18/07 Grp B Spain 5-3 Turkey
18/07 Grp B Scotland 2-2 Portugal
18/07 Grp A Belgium 4-2 Czech Republic
18/07 Grp A Poland 0-1 Austria
20/07 Grp B Scotland vs Spain
20/07 Grp B Portugal vs Turkey
20/07 Grp A Austria vs Czech Republic
20/07 Grp A Poland vs Belgium
23/07 Grp B Turkey vs Scotland
23/07 Grp B Portugal vs Spain
23/07 Grp A Austria vs Belgium
23/07 Grp A Czech Republic vs Poland

I'm really up for Scotland as half the team plays for Celtic. UEFA officials voted Charlie Grant player of the Elite phase and yesterday he scored one and set up the other. Scotlands midfield contained 3 Celtic players. They're on Eurosport tomorrow and I look forward to it. :) Pity Ireland failed to qualify as we deserved to be there after excellent qualifying campaigns.

I don't follow Celtic or the SPL as closely as you. I have barely seen them since SKY lost the SPL rights & I've two young kids now which rules out pub visits, or even trips up to Scotland. But it's been obvious to me now for a couple of years that there's good things happening in Scottish football with regard to their youth system yet the Scottish media has been oblivious to the fact. Even Rangers with their deep pockets have had players like Chris Burke show great potential.

What chance does the public ever have of feeling positive about the future when the media isn't aware? My mates In Ireland think we've nobody coming through at any level.

Believe it or not, Chris Burke's dad is a season ticket holder at Celtic Park!!

There is only 1 Rangers player in the U-19 squad.

As for Trinidad for Spain,he wasnt playing in teh last match and the commentator sadi it will be like for like with the guy he replaced in the Scotland match.
that is hard to believe because Trinidad is unbelievable.
He is like Robben, gets the ball, runs to teh end line but doesnt dive and puts class balls into the box.low balls at that because the spainish attack is so small.
A player to key an eye on definitly.

Scotland beat Turkey 3-2 and are into the last 4. Their entire midfield 4 that started the Turkey game play for Celtic but Grant will miss the Czech match for receiving 2 bookings.

There is going to be a load of Scottish lads in Frazers for the semi final I bet.

scots in the final where they'll play spain again. they also have a couple of players suspended so spain would be expected to beat them, but its still a great achievement for them

Well done to the young Scots.

Was surprised when I saw they were in the final.

So much for all those muppets slagging Scottish international football on these boards of late. As I have been saying even during the Bertie Vogts reign they still better than us. I heard this many time Irish people looking down on the Scottish national team and regading them as rubbish even though they did better than us in the last 2 qualication campaigns.

would still reckon our senior side is better. they may have finished third in the world cup qualifiers, however they only had 13 points in their group compared to our 17 in our one (we both had a world cup finalist topping the groups!), and lost three times, including at home to belarus (i think). however, would agree with that they are not near as bad as was suggested on these boards.

They also won away against teams they were directly competing against something that we have not done since 1987 and they had the World Cup Winners in their group.

UEFA.com have a list of players that impressed in the finals, 2 Scots make the list, only matched by their fellow finalists the Spanish.

Thought the final was quite good and Pique at the back is a very composed and strong figure. Scotland just did not have the class of the Spaniards but they played good football and tried to keep the ball on the ground. The 1st goal for Spain was a peach though.
