2-1 Rovers FT could have been 4 or 5-1 Charles had a good game for Bray. We're now 5 points clear of Pats but they have a game in hand. It's looking good for the Bit O' Red

Good result.Sligo rovers are a proper club with good fans and a nice brand of football and it's good to see them deservedly doing well in the premier.

Flash missed a few chances during the game but scored the important one.
Another win on the road........and another late goal.Shows the team never gives up and work hard for one another.
Dick Brush conceding is the only negative.

It also shows that going full time is working out for our fitness levels are much higher then some of the clubs in the lower half of the league

Cork at home next

ya good point 1928.
I think that the quality of our signings also meant a better fitness level throughout the team.
Im gonna be selfish and hope Cork lose tomorrow so we can keep the momemtum going and have a good crowd out on Saturday.

Maybe I'm reading it wrong....but how would Cork losing in Europe help Sligo keep their momentum going or affect the attendance at the Sligo v Cork game?

The Stars
18/07/2006, 9:33 PM
because if they lose we play them on saturday rather than a midweek game in a few weeks.

Surely if cork win they will be tired from the effort and the heat and won't have the focus or stamina to beat sligo. They might also have to rest players. If they lose they will refocus themselves on the league and yous will get a backlash!

The keeper made a cracking save just seconds after coming on. O'Hara didn't go off in the ambulance so I think it wasn't as bad as it could've been.

The Stars
18/07/2006, 9:43 PM
no because if they qualify the game this weekend is called off.
anyway if the lose they will still be tired from the heat....how those that change if they win or lose?

But they will have one eye on the next round if they win, when is that by the way?

The Stars

so what about an eye on the next game...your not getting the point.
we want a good crowd for the game and to continue our form with a good result against Cork, and to play it on a saturday night instead of midweek.
DO YOU UNDERSTAND?

I was talking about the game and not the crowd. You can have 10,000 at the game for all cork care they'll still beat yous,DO YOU UNDERSTAND?

The Sligo lads are on about if Cork win the game will be postponed, so they want them to loose so they can play them when they are at a tired stage!

The sligo lads want cork to lose because they want to play them on the saturday for a big crowd, not because they will be tired. They are big on saturday football up there because the fans turn out in big numbers on saturdays.Sure cork will be more knackered if they win due to extra effort!

Jesus Christ! Is there something in the water up there?I know the game gets called off if they win but I am telling you why they care-because of bad crowds at midweek games and not cork fatigue!Read The Stars post(no.16)

Congrats to Sligo on your recent form. But wishing cork defeat in europe is out of line..... We really need to raise our league coefficient any way we can..... A rising tide floats all boats.........Good Luck Cork....

wishing cork defeat in europe is out of lineNo it's not. Cork wanted European football, now they have it, they should have to suffer the consequences of fixture congestion. We're on great form at the moment, we don't want/need a break. We've already had two games postponed this season, we don't need another crappy mid-week game as a result of Cork City just getting past the first round of the CL.

Does Sligo not have ambition for European Football..... You should because you are knocking at the door with your current form and work rate... When you get to Europe, would you like improved odds of an extended run?..... If so, then you need the teams that are currently playing iun Eurpope to increase our coefficient every year (EL has only 0.833 this year and we need at least 1.833) Cork is an important part of that. If you don't care about seeing your club in Eurpoe, then your sentiment above makes sense (but your perspective is all screwed up).... Unless i'm mistaken your crowds have been decent this year................. but if a single Saturday purse is that important to you.... Have at it.......

This week is vital to our co-efficient. If all 3 clubs get through then who knows who'll be able to reap the benefits is years to come. Who would have thought Drogheda would be where they are but I wonder were they were wishing for big gates against Bohs, Shels a few years back too

Yeah, best of luck to Cork to-night. I want us to play on Saturday, but I would rather see Cork get through to the next stage. It's a long season yet, we are only half way through it. Plenty of time to put pressure on the leaders. Remember, if we play on Saturday that will be 3 games in a week. O'Hara was streachered off last night, so we dont know how serious his injury is. It was a really strong challange. It looked like it was his knee.
CHF would be proud of Brays long ball tactics. Once we settled down in the second half and started playing on the ground, we were super.
Bray got a good goal, but we should be 5 up at that stage.

Sligo are in red hot form at the moment. It's probably a bit too much for them to push onto 4th and into Setanta and European places but they are probably the favourites outside Derry to take the cup. It's nice to see the possibility for promoted sides to be an immediate success when they take the step up.

The Stars

well in fairness it Sean Connor he got rid of some of the players that would have been starting last year as he knew the step up in class the Premeir would be.2 new full backs,2 new starting midfielders and 2 new strikers.
all of whom have experience of playing at a good level in England.
