Clery (deadleg), Harty (foot), & Cooke (calf strain) are all doubts.

Harty went off early last Tuesday, if he went off early due to injury
then he is probably the most doubtful,

Would think the other two will be fit.

was taken off with the rest of the players who had played a full game against Cobh at half time in the Opswich game and he looked ok afterwards so fingers crossed a full squad tomorrow night.

Kilkenny is never the easiest place to get a result due to the atmosphere created by the tiny crowds they get but hopefully Tony will have the lads wired in from the start.

Hopefully any doubtful players can regain their fitness and can help the rest of the team and Tony Cousins to achieve something that has not been done by Galway United this season and win 2 games in a row.

the Opswich game

jeez gufct, i thought Ipswitch was bad, but Opswich? :D

Come on lads. With Limerick losing tonight, this is a great opportunity to close the gap at the top and get some great belief in yourselves in that ye can win this league. COMON UNITED lets get out of this division for our performances on the pitch and not off it.

Is it just me or does everyone feel that we will be bringing in nobody over the transfer window?

seems that way - not much activity in the first division at all

Rumours onthe Athlone forum that Iarflaidh Davoran
has left us to join Galway.

Anyone over there hear about it?

gufct

taht he will not be bringing in players unless they are better than the ones he has and with the injuries situation satarting to clear up he is spoiled for choice at the moment.

Main Priorities are a strong tackling midfielder and a striker but if we win our next 2 games id say he might stick with what he has.

I probably have his 1st name spelled wrong, its Irish, pronounced Eire-la

He play's up front.

Tullamore native, been with the Club a good while now but was mainly a
squad player. Featured more for the Under 21's. Skillful and always gives
110% but is very light.

I think he's in college in Galway and there was rumours last season that
he'd be joining ye.

I think he has played against us in all the games so far this season but didnt really shine for me. for some reason I thought he was a defender. Either way i think there are better players within the club. Keep the wages down!

Terry

Im guessing so that he is probably one of Dessie's signings rather than one of Tony's.

Patrick Dunne

I hope he's not a workshy tosser like Stephen Gavin.

Players are now flitting between Galway and Athlone. Their primary interest seems to be money (ATFC - GUFC) or
not having to train properly (GUFC - ATFC).

Ah Stevie G come in handy, the season before last, while injured,
he played drums for The Cootes in the stand in Monaghan :D

I dont know what Iarflaidh work ethtic is towards training etc but I
do know he gave his all during games.

IMHO he was just a bit too light for this division and got knocked around
the place too easily.

Having said that though, if he has signed, he's probably guarenteed to
score against us in September!!!!!!

Im sure Tony is already on the case, but does anybody here know of anyone from Dublin City that would be worth snatching up?

from the official Site :July 20th 2006 | Boss speaks on signings

Speaking to www.galwayunitedfc.ie new manager Tony Cousins said he would not make any hasty signings: "There are players I could sign but there is no point in bringing in players unless they are better than what we have. I am not interested in bringing in a player who is just going to challenge for a position."
When asked about his assessment of the squad, he added: "After five weeks in charge I have now learned a lot about the current squad and we are now playing more of a passing game. This was evident last Saturday evening in Kilkenny when we played a good passing game, especially in the second half. "Fitness wise myself and Tom French are happy with the shape of the squad and this is something we will be contantly working on and Tom will be observing and helping out the players with their diets."

Gary Cronin and Mark Rooney would be players Tony worked with at Drogheda and who are on frees from DC but are they any better than our current forwards?

So, has anybody heard anything about the guy from the US ? and if there is anybody else here on trial or training with the club?

Terry

Don't listen to GBFM myself but my friend said he heard on it during lunch that we have signed Wesley Charles from bray ? can anyone confirm/deny?

Terry

Also, that there would be more announcements before friday????

gufct

could come straight in on friday as Ronan is suspended. The window closes next monday so Tony has a few more up his sleeve . Good signing as long as he is made to work for his place and he could also move down.:ball:

official website says he will be based in galway!

A surprising signing Wes Charles, particularly as we are solid at the back. Still, it's no harm to have competition for places.

Russell back to full training

There some good news for Tony Cousins last week when John Russell returned to full training with Galway United. He was sidelined with a hip problem that restricted his movement and now hopes to be pushing for a place in the squad in the next couple of weeks. www.galwayunitedfc.ie

JW.
24/07/2006, 4:45 PM
To me, that could be an even more significant "addition". Russler is an enormously talented player and our midfield is arguably our weakest area at present. I'd love to see him reach his potential because he's full of class.

Terry
24/07/2006, 5:05 PM
Agree, ever since he went playing that u21 4 nation tournament when he got injured we havent seen what Russell is truely capable of. Hopefully he has passed he 2 or 3 years of injuries that have jinxed him and he gets back to full fitness as soon as possible. The squad is improving everyday now
