View Full Version : Strongest Team?
wat about:
devine
hoggie napier andrews cronin
warren o'grady colin t billy
o'flynn georgie
now that looks
youth on the right side
experience on the left
graft in the middle
solid at the back
what can i say for the lads up front-now where do i start
nice to see devine have a laugh with the shed and corner boys
why dont the corner boys return to the shed like they were two yrs ago,
a united team of fans can only benefit the club
I'd go with
Devine
Carey Napier Cronin Hoggie
Warren O'Grady O'Callaghan Billy
and two of O'Flynn/Mulligan/CP O'Brien
I think the back four is sound as it is. I cant really see Colin T as one of Citys strongest midfielders. O'Callaghan's favorite position is in the centre of midfield, a creative player, a new Patsy if you will.
There are still some of the new signings we have yet to see and it will be interesting to see how Colin P has come along after his first season at this level.

Drivel. I personally think that having the Corner boys where they are is a good thing. It makes more athmosphere, afterall, you dont want to just have one section singing and the rest of the ground silent, do you? Besides, the shed is not what it was, itll never be the same, and Personally I cant wait til the monstrosity is leveled! :p
"the shed is the peter pan of irish soccer"
come back tea-boy we miss you :)[

From what I've heard, read and think I know, I'd go for:
Devine
Carey, Napier, Cronin, Hoggie
Warren, O'Grady, O'Callaghan, Woods
C.P. O'Brien, Mulligan
Georgie is not an out-and-out striker - I hope we don't expect too much of him, just allow him to play his natural game in the middle.
Andrews will have to play his way into the team - I'd go for Napier and Gar for now, but Murphy has had a tendancy to drop Napier without great reasoning in the past.
Bennett will be pretty unlucky to lose out, but can simply fill in in the centre if Georgie needs to be played further forward, and of course Reynolds.
O'Flynn will need more than one game to stake a permanent place but he's going in the right direction.
Then there's Colin T., Mulconroy, Greg, Lordan,....
I'm already looking forward to Oct 4 and my first trip back to the Cross under lights - here's to the clash with Pat's being a top-of-the-table encounter!
Ok ill go for-
Devine
Carey, Napier, Cronin, Hoggy
Colin T, O'Grady, Georgie, Woods
O'Flynn, Warren
Devine
Carey Napier Gaz Hoggie
Mucky O'Callaghan O'Grady Woods
Warren O'Flynn
with O'Callaghan, Mucky and Warren all interchangeable to a certain degree it's time for total football methinks :D
Great to see Napier back.....but i have a funny feeling a certain clogger will be back at centre back in the near future.............
Mooney :)
Carey Napier Gaz Hoggie
warren, greg, O'Grady Woods
O'Flynn, george o callaghan (tra la laaa la laaaa :) )
Devine
Carey Napier Gaz Hoggie
Warren Mucky Grady Woods
O'Flynn & Georgy

I'd go with that although haven't seen enough of Mr. Mulconroy to say if he good enough. I think the big decision seems to be who to play alongside O'Grady in the middle......Greg has done well in there in the past....
If Andrews is any good could yet see Gaz back to his best position at left back - he used to be a consistently good crosser of the ball.
Isn't it wonderful to have some squad options ;)

Could I dare to say 3-5-2?
Devine
Napier Andrews Cronin
Carey O'Grady O'Callighan O'Hallorin Woods
O'Flynn Warren
When it works its great, when it fails its not very good, but I think that the players are there for it.
Carey does really as a wingback IMO his best position and considering Billy can play left back just as well as left wing 3-5-2 could work quite well cept it is always likely to become 5-3-2 when we are 1-0 up!

I wouldnt sat that it would necessarily go into a 5-3-2 if we took the lead, it would turn into 4-4-2 if anything with Billy going to the left wing position and Greg being on the right. Even though the team would seam set up for 3-5-2, Id probably keep with 4-4-2 because of our failings at 3-5-2 over the years.
Devine ,
Carey, Napier, Gar C, Hoggie
COB, O'Callaghan, O'Grady ,Woods
Warren/CPOB, O'Flynn
how anyone can justify Andrews i'll never know! we've never seen him play! In time maybe but i'll reserve judgement...we have yet to see Rennie play either so it mite change....maybe he'll play and georgie boy will go up front?
well actually pablo some of us have seen him play :)
he played in city's preseason friendlies and looked ok IMO

Heheh unlike you to argue the point games ;) All i'm saying is i'm sure a lot of fringe players played in our 'pre-season' and did well.....its not a judge of how good they are competitivly....
as u mentioned pablo completely unlike me to argue anything but how else is a new player to get into the side.. only by playing well in both training and preseason friendlies
also the fact that he's coming over from playing ok-ish in england and was only released on account of the itv digital collapse when nationwide clubs had to cut players numbers drastically ..
plus he's good in the air which is a weakness in a napier and cronin centre half pairing IMO.. we need someone ala dereck who gona win headers at the back
to be honest i dont see how colin T o'brien is making most peoples starting 11.. i didnt even think he'd survive as a squad member.. i'd play greg in there ahead of him or even reynolds anyday of the week and twice on friday nights :)
colin imo hasnt been the same since the injury a few years ago..
ok seeing as me putting in mooney was abit of a joke (sry Noel :) )
Devine,
Carey, Napier, Andrews/Gaz, Hoggie
warren, greg, O'Grady Woods
O'Flynn, george o callaghan (tra la laaa la laaaa :) )

Ok agreed. as long as 'tra la la la la' is played as a striker then thats a good team.
But if he isnt then the real fun begins in mid field regards a starting place.
Isnt it great to have a bit of competition? we couldnt have had this discussion last season! Fair Dues to Lennox and Gunther for bringing in the new guys. *
* First time Pablo has complemented Gunther EVER
But you cant argue with Colin's display last Friday. One of his best performances in a City shirt. I didnt rate him as a good player since the injury either. I wouldnt drop him after last Friday's display though. I hope he starts with the same 11 in our next match. They deserve it.

too right.
Me changed my team again.....
Devine,
Carey, Napier, Gaz, Hoggie
warren, pete, O'Grady Woods
O'Flynn, george o callaghan
If Andrews any good, then drop Carey for a while & move Gaz to left back.
When pete (player-manager) has won the game by setting O'Flynn up for a hat-trick can rest pete & sub Greg in for last 80minutes of the game.
:D

btw james, when have you seen andrews play
* you started this 'arguing the point'
fair point i am taking my info from the report i read in the southern star .. but for anyone who ever's read that paper.. it is almost like being there :)
Ive never seen Andrews play, he didnt feature in the only Pre-season match i got to (Longford). I think that as long as Gaz and Napier keep up their good form there is no reason to play Andrews.
Lads, isnt it great to have problems picking a City starting 11, I honestley cant remember having so many choices. Im certainly not complaining.:D
Is great that there now is more than one option for every position on the pitch, which is a sign of a good squad.
Since I've not seen City play yet this season I'll reserve judgement for my starting 11 for a bit.
