I'm going to buy a BBQ. I've never paid too much attention to the equipment before (just the grub;) ); should I go for Gas or Chracoal. One mate suggested Gas for convenience and speed but another suggests the latter for taste.

Any suggestions?

I live in Florida and we BBQ all the time. I'd recommend Gas simply for the ease of use. It's easier to control the cooking temps also. Personally, I don't like the taste of food cooked over charcoal. Doesn't do anything for me at all.

We have gas at home.
Easy to use, easy to clean and less smoke.
You want to spend most of your time eating and drinking at a BBQ, not tending a fire.

Charcoal for me. Gas is obviously convenient but sure bbq's are supposed to offer a different eating experience than standard cooking so using a gas bbq kinda defeats the purpose for me. There's something a bit more manly and masculine about using a charcoal one....;) :D

Charcoal for me definitely. Taste is so much better. Gas is, however, a lot handier. Having worked in both Atlantic Homecare and B&Q while I was in college I'd be very careful about where you buy a BBQ. Some of the BBQs in the major DIY stores are junk. 4 or 5 hundred euro worth of junk. Garden Centre's are the place to go for a decent BBQ

got to be charcoal - it really isn't that much harder and definitely tastes better.
