Ya I saw the game, expected more from Benfica to be honest. Cork created the better chances but to be honest getting to the semi's kinda flattered them as they didn't play as a team. Very much 11 individuals

thats coz wilton players weren't involved !!!!!!

Cork may not have been gelled as a team last year, that is true. As for not having the Wilton players, yes a couple of Wilton players might make the team and strengthen the Cork panel. Good for Cork Soccer though to have Clubs in their own right in the Senior Cup....the more Clubs the better.... though the representative teams do strengthen the competition.

Not 100% on this but think there were Wilton players on the Cork panel the year before and if ya ask me, cork didn't play as a team then either...another year of individuals...

True but if there's a GAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAH match on half the Mayo team won't be available:rolleyes:

it is lucky that they have half the team left and that there is 13 senior teams in mayo not all players play gaa and some play both soccer and gaa.many play only soccer .mayo soccer and gaa get all very well and meet often to work togetter.

Most likely next midweek at the earliest as Raheny United have DWSL Premier Cup Final to play on Sunday next.

Quarter final results:
Lifford 3-2 Cork League (aet) (2-2 at full time)
Galway 3-1 Benfica
Mayo league 3-2 Wilton (aet) (2-2 at full time)

So UCD, Lifford, Galway & Mayo all through.
When's the semi-final draw?

Didn't get to see any of the games, what were they like?
Heard Mayo were on fire... Never looked like losing it.
What about Lifford? Were they as lucky as i've heard?
I heard Raheny were on fire but UCD just edged it with the goals?
What was Galway game like? Only game not to go into extra time...

chick
31/10/2006, 10:22 AM
Yeah, lifford were lucky alright. they were two nil up though. they got the winner at the very end.
Galway were one nil up at half time but benfica missed a lot of chances. i think they hit the post once. galway's third goal was a penalty so that sealed the win.
I heard Mayo's u19 striker had a stormer of a game in that one.
Didnt hear about the dublin game but i'd say there was some good goalkeeping on show with the last years 2 u19 keepers in goals for both sides.

galway usually play at mervue and mayo at milebush park both pitchs suit their style of play and you would expect both teams to win but these cup games are on the day and it wont be easy for any team at semi stage.dont know time yet as days are shorter it could be 12 or 1

The final will be held in Lansdowne Road at 1 p.m. on the first Sunday in December. It is a curtain raiser for the F.A.I. Senior Challenge Cup Final to be held on the same day.

heard over the weekend that the womens cup final will not be held in lansdowne road but in one of the teams pitch who are in the final. anyone else hear this ?is womens soccer being moved down again.

benchwarmer

no way! its the pinile of ladies soccer for the year its what we aim to acheive thay cant surely take it out of landsdowne or can they??????????????

Thats a disgrace if they do that! Putting womens soccer on the back foot again!!! Having it played in Lansdowne Rd is such an incentive for any player in the Senior Cup, especially seening as the bulldosers are moving in soon after the finals this year! Whoever is responsible for making this decision would want a kick up the back side... One minute they're trying to promote the game, then something like this happens!!!!

No apparently there are two Rugby matches being played on the pitch one on Saturday and and one on Friday night, the same weekend as the Cup Final so that's the reason for the fixture being moved. It's disappointing and calls into question the whole timing of the tournament.

well done CTID you are on the ball it is disappointing that the women wont be able to play on the pitch it also might stop the womens game being on t.v as was planed live as the one crew was to do the two matchs i think???is noel king coming west for the semi's????

I reckon Mayo are gonna cream Lifford... |apparantly one thing Cork lacked was the finishing touch... with the way Mayo have been banging in the goals they'll test out Lifford's sometimes suspect defence

well done to connaght wfai for calling off womens finals this weekend it show's they are taking this senior cup serious and they want the cup to come to connaght for the first time.good luck to mayo and galway they may need it as both lifford and ucd are very strong teams.lifford beat mayo 2-1 in the inter-county league game this year in castlebar so they will not fear mayo.ucd are one of the best club teams in ireland but a long trip to galway could upset them but i know they would like to meet mayo in the final and beat them but then again so would galway make's for two good games.

I think a UCD v Mayo final would be great cos of last seasons upset. UCD would be well up for it plus Mayo know they can put one over on the students
