Heard on the radio thismorning that 100 England fans were arrested.
Said they were drinking in a pub then went outside and start throwing bottles into a crowded street...Is this the first lot of Violence since the tournament started.

Police said Saturday morning they had arrested about 100 English soccer fans after disturbances in a main square, a day ahead of England's second-round World Cup match against Ecuador.
Police were called to the scene after fans, some of whom appeared heavily intoxicated, began throwing bottles and glasses at passers-by from the terrace of a pub, Stuttgart's police said.
A few were immediately taken into custody, and the rest after officers were pelted as well.
"English fans were shown by this action that aggressive drinking, violence and mobbing will be prevented," police chief Michael Kuehner said in a statement.
"They are all still in detention," spokesman Stefan Keilbach told The Associated Press. He declined to comment further.
English officers assisting their German counterparts in heading off potential fan violence helped in calming the situation, police said. There were no injuries reported.
England play Ecuador for a place in the World Cup quarterfinals on Sunday.

Hopefully they will have rebuilt the city in time for us to play there, especially if Eng lose.

Ya saw a tiny segment on something of this last week sayingsomething like "though 49 English fans were detained, the vast majority of those arrested were German locals"
49?
Imagine RTEs reaction if 49 Irish fans got arrested.

no surprises really. I just felt the german police response was very calm

Aertel says that 122 were arrested, though only two for anything serious - two for throwing chairs and one woman for possession of cocaine. Seems the rest were kind of involved and were held just to nip things in the bud. Doesn't mention any other nationalities involved.
BBC (http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/uk/5112364.stm) report 90% of missiles as being thrown by Germans - don't know how they calculated that. 4000 arrests so far, so it seems they're arresting people for anything just to keep things from getting anywhere nasty. Seems it sounds worse than it really is.

According to RTE there was more trouble today after german-sweden match. They say that the 122 arrested last night are to be detained until monday morning.
It was only a matter of time before they caused trouble.
English fans spent the 2 nights before the Sweden game chanting and singing outside the english team hotel. Surprised there wasn't trouble then. You'd imagine if they we real fans they'd let the team sleep before an important match.

(sorry don't have link to the story about fans outside the hotel, saw it on ITV news the evening before the match)

Oh I thought there was a lot of people on here who thought they were great and that these things don't happen, even up there for a noble peace prize so they should have been.

not surprising it appears to have been everyone elses fault, even thought the germans, french, swiss and dutch have been partying together with no problems... hope we dont suffer a backlash in sept!

These are fans of the team, that we're told (by the Irish media) to support in the Finals.
Here's more reasons, why we don't.

Erwin Hetger, head of the state police, said: "We had no problems at all with the French, Swiss and Dutch fans that were having a great party here.
"It all changed when the English fans arrived. The atmosphere changed. The incidents began late yesterday evening."
Same old story, some things never change......

Exactly.I am sure they will be back on here very soon trying to justify this minor outburst as well.

There was always going to be English arrests, but the fact that 150-200 have been arrested out of a total of 4000 at the tournament so far means that they ain't as bad as some people would like them to be, off the pitch anyway. All but 3 were freed.

Why do you think that??
I for one, know that its a minority of fans spoiling it for the rest.
Relatively speaking, their fans have been reasonably well behaved as a whole. However, lets not start praising them for this, after all its normal not to cause trouble, not the other way around!
The thing with the English fans is that they the majority are fairly sound and good craic, but when the gather in large groups and drink for the day, you always get the feeling that something is simmering under the surface. Not as bad as it was in years gone by, but still not fully gone either.
Thats just my opinion

I'm sure most people on here take great delight in seeing people enjoying the craic after their team getting into the second round only too start having chairs and bottles fired at them. Can't say i was hoping that the people of Stuttgart would have to put up with this craic somehow.

Why do you think that??
Just that a lot of people were on here very quickly, and also I think that there is a sense of eanting something like this to happen, so we can complain about how terrible the fans are and how everybody hates them.

We are all entitled to our own opinions my friend ,and to be honest there are enough threads and posts on here with references and reasons ,so I am not going to go into them again. If you want to know just do a little research.Dont get too hung up on it though, hopefully there will be no further problems and most important of all, Stuttgart still stands.Happy days

Ok even though there was fifty odd arrests on friday night of them i'll just pretend it never happened like the brit media have been telling us and ignore what really happened.
