Well...so far.

It has to be Phillip Lahm's goal on Friday. That was some way to start the World Cup.

cahills second was brilliant when you consider how important it was to the result.

Kakas goal was so feckin sweet......his control as the ball came at him awkwardly and two men around him was brilliant and his "pass" with his left foot into the top corner knocks Frings's goal down into second spot for me

Ahn Jung-Hwan's goal that gave South Korea was something special, bent it around the defender into the far corner. Class.

Spain's fourth was a cracker.

Spain's fourth will go down as one of the all-time great World Cup goals. 3 exceptional contributions from Puyol, great touches by Torres and Fabregas and a sublime finish from Torres.

Just like Carlos Alberto's for Brazil in 1970.

Gotta be spains 4th for me. The way Puyol turned his man (he so meant that :D), the way torres dug it out, fabregas's brilliant pass, beautiful cushioned header from Puyol and what a finish. Exhibition stuff! Ukraine were gone out of it at that stage but it was still a goal of exceptional quality. If its not the best goal so far, it's certainly the most enjoyable

Would have been Stern John's if he had not been a touch offside.

Equadors 3rd against Costa Rica was a nice move with a quality finish.

I don't think the fact that they already had the game won should diminish it. As superfrank alluded to it reminded me of Carlos Alberto's goal in 1970 with Puyol doing the work of both Clodoaldo AND Pele :D . Many people consider that goal to rank with Maradona's as the best finals' goal ever even though it was the fourth and Italy were already beaten by then. I think it will take something incredible to top Torres now for Goal of the Tournament.

absolutely. Beautiful goal. Argentina are the best team so far. First game it was Riquelme. Today it's Saviola. So many good players. Plus they havent even used Messi or Tevez yet.

Cambiasso's goal was a team goal of sheer brilliance. I lost count of the passes.

Reminiscent of a goal by our own Liam Miller against Lyon, a header from a Larsson cross after the best part of 2 minutes' possession & passing :)

24 passes. 9 players touched the ball. absolutely world class!! thats the best goal i've ever seen live on tv!

I think we can probably close this thread now...and start a 'second best goal of the tournament' one; nothing's going to match that

Goal of the decade.......I counted 20 passes but that was only in the replay,at least 5 before that.
Passing and moving in that goal is the best you will ever see.

You're right, I doubt very much that will be topped. We'll see some crackers but none to tuch the technical brilliance of that.

Surely Joe Cole will get individual goal of the tournament with his effort last night. Nice control on the chest and smashed it in on the full volley. Cracker.

I don't think they do do different categories of goal of the tournament. Great goal but Joe Bloggs off the street can score a goal like that on his day, what Joe Bloggs can't do is produce sublime one touch passing and movement that ends in a sweet finish like Cambiasso's. No contest IMO about which is better.

no,everybody has score a cracking goal at one stage in their career but that goal from Argentina only happens once every few years by a special team

I can think of quite a few players who've never scored a goal like that..... but I agree with your point

I think at some stage in your life every player bangs in a goal like that. During a kickabout or at training or maybe in a match. The Argentine goal is something special though

You see goals scored like that in La Liga every week.

No goal has beaten Frings 35-yard rocket for Germany v Costa Rica yet.

Another contender last night for Maxi Rodriguez stunning winner for Argentina v Mexico.Great control and a left foot dipping volley over the keeper. It'll be hard to pick one goal out as theres so many great goals scored in this tournament.

Best goal so far given how crucial it was.

Easy to score great goals against inferior opposition when winning 3-0

So it's just a conincidence that he scores good goals from long range quite often for Chelsea??

Giffy's goal the other will probably be the one cracker he'll ever score but I think it was a fine goal by a player who does that quite often.

Maxi Rodriguez' goal against Mexico didn't come close to his 1st v Serbia imo.
