Irish women's squad announced for Russia game


Ireland's women's team continue their World Cup qualifying campaign continues on Saturday, 17th June when they face Russia at Richmond Park, Inchicore. Kacey O’Driscoll, a star in Kerry's GAA team and having just returned from a scholarship in the United States is called into Noel King's squad for the game.

She was previously part of the squad for the trip to the Algarve earlier in the year after progressing through the underage sides. "There is a big expectation that the girls can maintain the form they showed against Germany for this match against Russia," said manager King. "If they show that same commitment, effort and skill next week as they did during the German game, I’ll be delighted."

Well, surely the all-important thing is getting a result, then maybe Noel King can be "delighted". It was a very good performance against the Germans by the Ireland women, at which King should be pleased.

Noel King Announces Women’s Squad to Face Russia


Ireland Senior Women’s International manager Noel King has named Kerry GAA star Kacey O’Driscoll in his 18-player squad for the World Cup qualifying game against Russia on Saturday week, June 17th, at Richmond Park in Inchicore O’Driscoll has made strides through the Women’s underage International stage over the last few seasons and was rewarded with a call-up to the senior panel for the friendly tournament in the Algarve earlier this year. She has just returned from her scholarship in the United States. Key striker Laura Hislop also returns to the squad, having been absent for last month’s games against Scotland and Germany due to exam commitments.

King will have to plan for the game without current eircom player of the year Michelle O’Brien, who will miss the game because of a calf complaint. Yvonne Treacy continues to be sidelined with a long-term ligament injury.
