FAI Welcomes €11 million Sports Capital Grants for Football

The FAI today welcomed the €11 million in Sports Capital Grant allocations announced by Minister for Arts, Sport and Tourism, John O’Donoghue, T.D. Commenting on the grants, FAI Chief Executive Officer John Delaney said “the allocations announced today to over 100 clubs and associations involved in football provide further evidence of the Minister and the Government’s commitment to support football throughout the country”.

Mr Delaney said that with more people participating in football than any other team sport in Ireland, the development of facilities is a huge priority. “With 450,000 people involved in football, infrastructure is the key to continuing to increase participation while also improving the product and the players in the long term”, Delaney said. “Today’s funding allocations are another welcome boost to the creation and development of this infrastructure”, he added.

Plenty of evidence there of the GAA's unique fund-raising talent that we're always being told about.

Your maths sems a little confusing to me. If Kildare are getting 1.4m, then that's well in excess of the GAA's 715K, or 50.84%.

Sorry, I was talking about the County of Kildare, not Kildare County FC.

Read the post again Manic....slowly this time. ;)

As Boh Diddley points out, the rednecks are getting well looked after again, despite their constantly banging on about their own fund-raising efforts.

Remind me again, what's the #1 participatory sport in this country?

I was lead to believe that Newbridge Town FC was relying on a grant to part-fund the new 1,200 seater stand. It looks like, if they did apply, they didn't even get a cent...

Same scam as last year.

Kerry gets 3.4m which 3rd highest after Dublin in Cork where there is no comparison in populations.

Guess where the Minister is from?
