just seen there they are running a poll for the greatest foreign player in the english premiership so thought i'd start one on the eircom league. so who lads whose was or is the best foreigner to ever play in our league and i mean those who showed great form with their clubs and not players who stopped off for one or two games.

Pat McCourt.;)
Not taking the p*ss but seriously what do you mean by foreign cos if it's anyone outside the republic then i'd say McCourt as well.
I'd say danny Murphy would be up there aswell but honestly wouldn't know other teams players well enough to know if they're foreign or not

Joey Ndo. I'm only really considering current players, but I still think he'd be well up there.
The North's not foreign.

Yes you are...blatant attempt to get someone to bite.
Alex Krstic was a bit special, but I'd put Owen DaGama in ahead of him.
Currently?..I s'pose Ndo is hard to argue with...only hear great things about him.

Joey Ndo - but he has never had a straight of games in the Shels team due to consistant injurys or Fenlon just dropping him   . Once he gets a good run in the side we can beat anyone in the league without hoofing the ball. Hopefully he gets back into the team and go on to win player of the year. Model professional! :)
Her? Ndo's a girl? :)
Ndo is a fecking hero, godlike player! :D And he loves us!

Kevin Hunt I reckon:ball:
Have to mention Wesley Charles as well, he has been terrific for us since signing from Sligo.

Yes, but the rest of us are conspiring against them.
Kevin Hunt.

Mark Rutherford maybe?
I'd say Ndo. Imagine him in a team that doesn't bypass midfield

Ndo is a good call and he's certainly hugely talented, but I don't think he's had the same impact on Shels as Hunt and Charlie had on Bohs and us respectively. Put it this way, Bohs without Hunt or Pats without Charlie would be unthinkable - Shels without Ndo has happened more often than not. Ndo was one more addition to what was already a strong squad, but Charlie simply lit up our world.

Or boring them to death as the case may be.;)
Joey Ndo or Danny Murphy usually but not this season.
Not sure how Kevin Hunt is doing either.
Admir Softic.:)
Id hardly class Danny Murphy a foreigner - he has played for Ireland at underage level!!
Ndo is the best - if I was Fenlon Id play him CM every game for the full 90

Remember Andrei Periplyotkin? for a few weeks i thought he was one of the best players I'd ever seen in Ireland; otherwise though, have to agree with everyone else -Hunty and N'do

I reckon we keep this thread to Non-Irish/Welsh/Scottish/English players they are hardly foreign are they  :p
Sini Savic:p
Avery John, hes even in the world cup

Dave Norman also went to the World Cup after playing eL. Played for UCD for three seasons before playing in the 1986 World Cup for Canada. Though there we're probably getting onto general reputation rather than eL reputation.

Eric Lavine, the Towns greatest scoring machine. As for his efforts on the field of play............
Lot of short memories around here -
Agree with Hunt and Rutherford as both made a huge impact over a long spell.
Livingstone was brilliant and a top bloke - pity his career couldn't have lasted longer
For city, there's only one stand out - Gerry McCabe. Brilliant in our first league winning season and IMO one of the most talented wingers ever to play in this league. If people really want to go back then there were plenty of top level British players in the 50s and 60s, including our own Jackie Lennox

Completely agree with this. Ndo couldn't even guarantee his place in a Shels team that struggled at times so that gives a good indication on how the Shels coaching staff rate his impact on the league. Also, while at Pats, he was clearly the outstanding player on the pitch but he would only have a tiny fraction of the influence Babaz had on a game (over several seasons too).
Under the terms of the original post as I took them, Babaz and Hunt would be the outstanding candidates with Rutherford also worthy of a strong mention. Going further back, Waterford people would probably say Peter Thomas. Putting Ndo in the same frame as them is just one step away from nominating the likes of Best, Bobby Charlton or Dixie Dean.
Oh, and for the Shels fans saying that Joey loves you. I think you'll find that, like most footballers, Joey loves the biscuit tin full of euros that Ollie gives him every week. :D

The first bit of Rovers v Bohs banter that has ever made me laugh on this forum - a break from the painfully tedious in to the genuinely amusing.
