Kildare 0-1 Bray - result.

Means Drogheda have 15 minutes left to avoid defeat.

And Drogs are out. :) The Cup draw opens up a bit more for those of us left! Well done to Limerick - great result.

I don't know much about Limerick but Drogs looked a great side when we played them in the Setanta. I must say I'm really surprised by this result, but football's a "funny old game!"

We were quite lucky ourselves being honest.

So Shels and Derry are now favourites but the rest of us are going "well if we got a home tie and......."

Drogs problem from last season - goals! is coming back again. Shouldn't have wasted all Mays goals in that 4-0 the other week.

I reckon it's a good thing for them being honest. The league is there top priority so not having the cup to worry about will help them.

Excellent result for Limerick. Usually you've blown your chance if you end up being taken to the replay by the favourite. Congratulations. Hopefully it'll generate a bit of publicity for the game down there. Both last year's finalists out now. Lets hope next round's draw pits some favourites against each other. This round almost looked like it was seeded.

This round almost looked like it was seeded.

It does doesn't it. Hard not to notice who the Dublin league clubs were drawn against - 4 non-league teams and the bottom two teams in the first division...

Anyway, now that it counts towards promotion/relegation it's only fair that it would be seeded. Drogheda and Cork were drawn in the most evenly-matched ties and getting knocked out has cost them the equivalent of 9 and 7 league placings respectively* (10 and 8 Competion Points). At times the League Cup was supposed to be an "open draw" for the knockout stages but the same teams just happened to get drawn against each other each season. If Derry, Pats, Shels, Bohs, Longford etc. are kept apart in the next round we'll know something is up.

*compared to last season.

Jerry I wasn't suggesting foul play or a conspiracy. I just meant from a cup romance point of view I think the first round killed a lot of it. Even Limerick who caused the biggest upset are doing well this year.

Drogman.

Ah we were getting bored of trying to win the same trophy, we've have 3 others to look forward to :D

Congrats to Limerick though, fully deserved and I thought that their 2 centre halfs were outstanding, won everything in the air and one of them made an absolute brilliant tackle to deny Fabio a 1 on 1 chance.

Hopefully Limerick will go far and if they play like they did last night then I can't see why not.

As long as you can score against Drogheda then you always have a chance of beating them. Their 4:0 win last week doesn't alter the fact that they can usually only muster 1 goal a game.

Linfield had the weaker defence when you played them, which was enough for them to win.

And when you combine that with a defence as mean as Limerick's there is big scope for a shock. We've played 12 games in all competitions so far this season. 8 clean sheets (including 2 against Drogs) and 8 1-0 wins. Even Graham's Arsenal would be proud of a run like that. :)

Looks like we got a taste of our own medicine :(

Not too many Drogs about.

I just wanted to know if they got that "ridden rock solid" feeling too.

No, not really. Well not by any Dubs anyway:D

I don't think any doors were broken in United Park last night either:D We accepted our defeat quite graciously, didn't have much choice - Limerick deserved it.

Well done to Limerick. Watch out for them in the cup this year- a First Division team usually does well.

Fair play to the Drogheda lads on here for accepting defeat graciously, unlike others who usually give the same guff, ie we weren't bothered, we were missing players etc when their teams are knocked out of cup comps by 1st div sides :D

think we are pretty gutted at our exit so early on - but that is football.

Well done to Limerick and I think this link is just one of a number showing our reaction to the defeat - and our thoughts on the victors.
