Yeah, its the Daily Mail so I wouldn't be too sure about the veracity of it really. Still a very ominous sounding story, if anyway true.

Mentioned it in another thread but the point still stands.

The Kelly story was all over the radio this morning, I'm told.
Kelly isn't a prima donna. He's an articulate, likeable and grounded person so this speaks volumes.

It does. And player revolt is the most likely avenue out of this now. It also suggests O'Dea and Coleman keeping their places on the other hand maybe, hence the lad not wanting to bother making the trip.

The last player in the squad you'd expect to fall out with anyone, especially the management. Not good.

Brian Kerr was only singing Kelly's praises in terms of the type of person he is last week on OTB.
(that said didn't he fall out with Pulis at Stoke a few years ago too??)

Reading could line up with a back four of Harte-Pearce-?-Kelly
if Pierce Sweeney or Sean Long got promoted to the senior team, it'll be an all-Irish back line!

Sean Morrison? He'll be in the 1st team soon enough. Marvelous player.

He really needs a move as soon as possible. Not even in the matchday squad this afternoon. Only 16 club appearances last season. 31 next month. It's a pretty stark situation.
He still made four Intl. appearances last season though, so it's not all doom and gloom.

Out of contract Kelly not on plane for Reading's pre-season trip to Thailand. Simon Cox misses out through injury. Shane Griffin & Pierce Sweeney are omitted. New signings Stephen Quinn & Paul McShane and youngsters Sean Long & Niall Keown are the four Irish men included.

It's a nice idea, isn't it? But, from a practical point of view, he's likely to earn circa €2k here. Whilst I'd imagine he'd command a wage of £5k or so at a League One or lesser Championship side. That's a gap of about €200k a year. That's an awful, awful amount of money.
With Duff, his money was made. McPhail wanted to raise his family in Ireland (I think the family had moved home and he was commuting back to Ireland) and was 34 or 35. Keith Fahey has only ever spent 4 years of his professional career in England so he's a different consideration to the likes of Duff, McPhail and Kelly.

Sad reality is you could run a first division club for six months on what he can earn now, excluding bonuses, signing-on fees, loyalty fees etc. 32 in September, he has about three more years decent earning potential left, though if signing for a LoI club was a lifestyle choice he must have earned/invested enough by now to be able to take a lower pay cheque, if not even retire in comfort.

He is always very high tempo, perhaps speaking too quickly, generally very excited. Could probably do with taking a breath every now and again, I'm sure it's a much tougher job than you'd think, at least he sounds happy to be there, I'd take him over Ronnie Whelan any day.

I was on a commentary-free live stream (ViaPlay Interenational on Youtube) which I synced with RTE radio commentary. It worked well. Cunningham was the in-game co-comms and Pat Fenlon was the studio analyst. It was good quality discussion.

Darragh Maloney does a decent enough job as a presenter when he's in the studio but he's a dreadful commentator. Peter Collins is competely wooden. Houghton is awful. Kelly is awful
It's a bad show. More bad parts than good. At a time when other broadcasters are making a point of giving opportunities to women it's hard to imagine things would be any worse if someone like Niamh Fahey got a chance. There has to be somrone from the 2023 squad who can talk on camera and would be interested in doing media work.
