Crystal Palace boss Iain Dowie has left his position as manager of the Eagles by mutual consent.
The 41-year-old had been in charge at Selhurst Park since December 2003.
Dowie was reported to have fallen out with Palace chairman Simon Jordan after the club missed out on immediate promotion back to the Premiership.
Dowie has been linked with the jobs at Middlesbrough, Charlton and Ipswich and with Preston too, should boss Billy Davies leave Deepdale this summer.
The North End manager has been granted permission to speak to Charlton and will meet with the Addicks on Monday.
Palace finished sixth in the Championship but were beaten 3-0 over two legs in the play-offs by eventual winners Watford.

Would it not make more sense for Charlton to be approaching Dowie?

A couple of days following the famous Eric Cantona kung fu kick at Selhurst Park, Frank Skinner on Fantasy Football League said "on Wednesday night I took my son to Selhurst Park. What I witenessed there was something no young child should ever have to see. It was an absolute disgrace and it may be difficult for my son to recover from the terror". And then up came an image of Ian Dowie's face!

He said he wanted to move back north to be with his family,
yeah very bad form from Dowie, said he had to quit Palace because of family reasons and travel, yet a few weeks later take the Addicks job. Can't see Jordan being to nice about it.

Should have been honest with Jordan and said he wanted a change of scenery.

What a tangled web Mr Dowie weaves. I always though hw was a switched on cookie. To be fair to Dowie when it was mentioned in the press conference he did not deny he might move to Charlton and always mantained he needed to work unlike Mr Jordan. Should leave for an inreresting summer in South London. Although the Charlton fans at work are not that keen on Dowie or more to the point an ex Palace manger.

Have to say Dowie looked a bit under pressure at the Press Conference:
