View Full Version : How about a scoreboard?

I was just thinking there, wouldnt it be nice to have an electronic scoreboard in Terryland. So I asked Google and he came up with: http://www.ukscoreboards.co.uk/scoreboards_outdoor_stadium_football.htm
It costs £4500+vat, which seems like alot. But I'm sure between GUFC, Galway FA, GUST and a little fundraising, it could be paid for.
What do you think, no more coming to Terryland late asking has any scored yet and it would be great to know how long is left in the match.

good enough idea i suppose - but 4-5 grand maybe for the time being should be spent elsewhere???

but there is far more important work to be done firstly. Its about €10,000 for a decent one so it would have to be sponsored.

one word.....NO!

It is sponsored by Tohers Chemist so dont think we paid anything for it.

thats what we'd need to do... get it fully sponsored... maybe harmack? they have loads of money to throw around at the moment

Ya well if they're willing to give us a couple of grand why not get a couple of good players with it?
Better use than a scoreboard IMO.

thats the thing though, harmack (or whoever) wouldnt give us money to buy players, because theyd get nothing in return (remember its all about money in business) - but if they sponsored the scoreboard, their name/logo would be visible til the day it was torn down... see now conor?

E10,000 - what are ye on about!? All you need is a crude wooden structure, with some young lad who is armed with black slates and thick white chalk.
"GAILLIMH AONTAITHE 1"
"CATHAIR CORCAIGH 0"
You've all seen them. It'd cost about E100 or so :)

E30000 apparently should be up within 6 weeks.

Maybe someone can correct me but i didnt think they cost that much, that's crazy money. E30,000 could be used for better things in my opinion

The money would be blown on players wages in around 3-4 weeks.
Far better to use it for infrastructural development and something which
will benefit the club for 10 + years.

I presume that for E30K you would get a scoreboard which could be
used to promote games, buses etc, and also possibly used
to raise revenue through advertisements.

30 grand? thats a lot of money... but it will be nice to see... i presume its going on the wall behind the car park end?

Conor H

would it not make much more sense at the car park end?

Patrick Dunne

A cunning plan would be to use the rear of it for
a "Galway United FC - Next Home Game vs .."
and to position it on top of the wall behind the chipper.

Ya i think Shels have something like that.Would be good facing out on the Dyke Road.

thats a good idea Pat, but if they didnt do that - id prefer it on the car park end wall. but its all good nomatter where it goes.

Another cunning plan would be to make sure it is sufficiently protected from vandalism by drunken louts passing by at night. If it was big enough you could aim it at quincenteniel bridge and sell advertising all year round. One other thing the wall at the chipper comes out at an angle so I hope the suppporters at the car park end of the new stand will be able to see it! At 30k i hopes its double sided.

yea advertising onto the quincentenial bridge has to be part of it - the top of the stand advertising which can be seen from the brigde generates considerable money for the club
