Derby have decided not to offer Jeff Kenna, Pablo Mills and Kevin Poole fresh deals at Pride Park when their contracts expire in the summer. More (http://news.bbc.co.uk/sport1/hi/football/teams/d/derby_county/4992884.stm)

Wonder will he do a Curtis Flemming on it and come back and play in the eL for a season or two ? Wonder would any clubs be interested in signing him ?

Saw a piece on him on tv, when he was with Birmingham. He has property in Spain and is passionate about golf, and as soon as his career in England is over, he intended moving lock, stock and barrell to Spain.

If the powers that be in the league were more organised they would be trying to get people back into the fold over here, beyond playing careers, coaching etc. Alot of players just slip through the net and their experience with them. Crying shame.

Most of them are too settled in England by then. Same language, similar culture, proximity to home, very easy to settle there and not bother returning.

No reason not to try, fair enough when there is young kids and all that but do some of them know that its even an option ??

Has to be said .... no where near enough work being done on that.

An alleged 37 or so irish players most who played with Irish youths will be released in the next few days from english clubs, no better shop window than a league thats up and running.

Should be a full list in the next few days.

No offence A Face, but a lot of players are selfish individuals and do not see any need to "give something back" to the game.

We are now in a generation of players where players who have done well and reached the end of their career, if they have made any sensible investment, don't need to look for another job.

I can see you point regarding experience, but why should we go out of the way to bring back ex-players when we have plenty of coaches who are much more qualified than players?

Anyone hear the Richie Partridge to Bohs yarn?

Can't see it myself seeing as he's shacked up with Michael Owen's sister

Going back to players ending their careers in Ireland. It worked before with Bobby Charlton, Johnny Giles and others etc etc, maybe clubs should look into this option, bring good talent and experience to those younger players around them, offering advice.

Farrelly was at the liverpool Academy for three weeks in the pre-season last year and rumours about partridge stem from there. Be great to see richie over here. I was in school with him. played for blakestown C.S. u16 with him and Glen Growe
so to see him at bohs would be great

You forgot to add "nearly going broke", which is what happened to quite a lot of the clubs who went down that route in the 70s, I think.

That was before the days of multi million pound footballers being the norm.
Any player who plays premiership footy for ten or so years ends his career these days as a millionaire.

Back in the days you speak of, the players either went into Management/Coaching or bought a pub, the ones that didn't had to get real jobs. So they prolonged their careers anywhere they could.

These days even average player have made a killing out of football and no longer need to come here for a last pay packet.

One thing I know is his nephew is on trial at Derby. He's a Wicklowman....you never know.
