Ya following it on Shelsweb instead of studying.
Should have just gone.
Shels don't really beat City.
Nonetheless, i had a bad feeling about it and things looked ominous with a penno going in with 5 mins left.
But to get that goal just before HT is great.
TBH, i'd have taken a draw but it's looking good now.

Pity half time came - the game was just getting interesting, well I'll stick by my prediction, 2-1 away win. :)

They should also have won the league last year. Ha!
Sounds like a classic City- Shels affair.

I think that game only took place between the 40th minute and 50th minute - terrible game, City deserved winners.....................

Terrible effort by Delaney trying to save O'Callaghan's free kick. (there should be a headshake smilie - I'd use it here)

Next Saturday will be an absolute cracker at the Brandy. I am extremly confident and I'm sure our players will be really fired up given our non-performance in the title decider. All the makings of a classic Brandywell night.

Pity there will only be approx. 50 Cork fans there. Part-timers ;)

Poor, poor game which was livened up by a great strike by Georgie (keeper should have done better) and a nice 2nd goal by Cork.

Stonewall peno for Shels.

Woods and O'Brien are a step back for Cork, they need to strengthen in the transfer window if they want to progress in Europe and go for the League again IMHO.

Shels still don't know what their 1st choice team is.

Good crowd at the game ,athmosphere wasnt the best shed greatly missed..I thought Joey had a great game .It was a defiant Penalty ,Devine was unlucky not to save it .Lordan looked shacky at the back at times.....Im off to watch Eircom weekly to see the 2 city goals again

Thought Gamble was fantastic tonight.

Once Fenlon took off O'Neill I knew we had it won. Shels were not able to do anything once we closed off the game

Once Fenlon took off O'Neill I knew we had it won.

On the contrary, I'm glad Crowe wasn't playing from the start. He's very dangerous in the box. Had a great chance just moments after coming on.

I thought Hancock did fairly well. He managed to stop the game from boiling over. Daisy McKeon would have been dishing out cards left right and centre.
I wasn't too worried at 0-1 because I know Shels would struggle to defend such a slim lead. Then Georgie scored a cracker just at the right time.
Our movement for the winning goal was great. The move started at right back.
It was never going to be a classic but it was by no means a bad game.

Almost afraid to say the bleedin' obvious, but if Shels had a half-decent manager they'd be well ahead in the league at this stage (just like last year). Still have the best squad, just can't pick his best team and it's easy to see good players becoming mediocre in the set-up he's adopted.

Not complaining mind...:)

Shels dominance in the past few years wa sbased on solid defence & dominant midfield - neither of those exist anymore & teams always know shels will give uo goals.

I don't care what kind of game it was because we won by only playing well in patches.

Top of the league we not even playing well. Isn't that a sign of great teams? I think Rico is been proven correct that he could wait until the transfer window (lot more transfer options) before committing himself to a quality signings!

Anyone being mooted?

Apparently we've got three in three out due to be announced in the next few days. Rumours that it's Owen Morrisson, Darren Kelly and Holmes (Glentoran leftback).

Can't wait til the big one on Saturday, only a pity that I won't be home for it.

Suprised nobody's touched on the appalling away support. Was there more than 20 shels for a big game like that?

Also yet again the ego alan kelly on the box more than some of the players.

Anyone watch the coverage afterwords on Setanta?Felix Healy said it was 'diabolical' game and both teams were hoofing the ball in the 2nd half.Pat Dolan was trying to make him say some positive things then but Felix was having none of it.As my brother said I don't think he'll be brought back as an analyst for Setanta for a while :D .

They have the convenient excuse of the train strike I suppose.

Felix Healy said it was 'diabolical' game and both teams were hoofing the ball in the 2nd half.

He's entitled to an opinion. To be honest, I'd be more annoyed if he just sat there smiling and saying how wonderful everything is.

Not a classic but not a bad game either. City maybe a bit fortunate to win but Shels look toothless up front TBH.

Sets it up nicely for the game on Saturday.

I'll get the excuses in for the Shels fans:

1. Train strike
2. Monday is a brutal night to travel if you've work/classes the rest of the week

Sooner we're back up to show what decent support is the better.

Get over yourself. Rovers support at the Brandy was good but not as good as you would have us believe. I don't think any Dublin clubs can boast about support as you only have to travel outside the Pale a few times a season.

NY Hoop

We have to travel outside the "pale" for every away game this season. With the exception of Harps every club has had the biggest away gate in years.

the crowd for the dundalk match from the attendance thread is a lot lower than the derby cup matches in oriel over the past two seasons.

however, that is just being pedantic - like you are with shels. before 400 club took over, rovers support is getting very very small both home and away, now that you club is rejuvinated in many ways, please spare the lectures to the rest of us about crowds, tax etc etc etc

Only at home!!!

I was supposed to go via train and so were a few others,so yes it is a valid excuse for those people, luckily some of us were able to arrange another form of transport!!

It was a very poor Shels away crowd, when has it been anything else?
It was a Monday night and it was on tele, despite what some may think this does effect crowds travelling

In regards to the game i have only 2 things to say,Cork took thier chances and so,deserved their win,the other thing is Liam Kearney is a f*cking waster!!

Felix Healy was spot on, I felt sorry for the cameraman in the 2nd half, poor advert for the game. As for Shels, when they go for a game they're great to watch, but the worst thing that can happen is if they take the lead. fenlon is like a kid who takes the ball home with him... the team just clam up, stop playing. It happens every time; he's over cautious and should let his players off the leash more often.

Didn't see the match last night but I saw Kearney a good few times when he was at Cork and he can play very well. My biggest criticism of him is that you only have to look at him for him to go down looking for a free kick  .

Maybe he feels that because he has signed for Shels that he has 'made it'. Pat Fenlon commented on this before and said that he had to clear out those type of players. Check my previous posts over the years and you'll see that I would be in favour of him ( Fenlon ) going with them!

It's true what was said in the previous posts in that we still have the best squad but haven't the right manager ( I would also criticise some recent signings and letting Glen Fitzpatrick go ).

16/05/2006, 5:13 PM
If Shels were still there I doubt whether they'd have equalised yet. Kearney was hopeless. The ref was poor. I'd personally lay the 'blame' at the centre half who charged out at O'Donovan for the second goal (Rogers/Dillon) Committed too early and from then on there was a gaping hole in the defence.

All his mates are from Cork, his Family is from Cork. If he'd scored the winner he'd have been given a hard time ( not just in the match ). Relations too possibly. At least Ollie is from Tipp.
