For me Kelly is the best ref in the EL. So i'm glad he's getting the honour.

As for Stokes,

Agreed on both. I think Kelly is by-far the best ref in our league. The profile of the match he's been given - relative to the others - suggests that the powers-that-be in world football agree.

Congrats to the refs.

BTW, does anyone know if Ciaran Delaney used to ref in the Leinster Junior/Football League? There was one guy there when I was reffing who went to the eL & I think that was him - he was a bloody good ref then, I suppose he has only got better since

:D

Without doubt the worst ref I have ever seen in 20 years in the eL, even worse than Aidan O'Regan!!!

Don't know who the referee in the Derry-Cork game was tonight but he was diabolical- when will refs learn to let the game flow?

This is obviously UEFA's revenge on Thierry Henry for criticising other refs - after Kelly, he'll be speechless!

More than likely the powers in world football know nothing about him directly. When his father is the refs accessor I am sure his scores make him look a good ref. I would hate to be France or Denmark, the man is an idiot, but in fairness to him only slightly worse than the rest.

Spot on Chippie. When your Daddy is the referees assessor for the FAI then you are always going to do well.

Congrats to all the officials involved.

With a little bit of luck (although I doubt it) maybe Irish referees will get some positive press for a change!!

I hope they are shown up for the idiots that they are and then maybe Delaney will sort it out.

Thats so typical of people on this board. Negative, negative and negative and then expect some one else to sort out the problem.

Do you know how hard it is to retain referees in this country? Most referees quit within the first 12 months of becoming a referee because of the level of abuse at schoolboy and junior matches.

Perhaps BohsBohsBohs instead of looking to some one else, you might have a solution to the problem yourself or better still get out of the comfort of the stand, grab a whistle and see if you are any better!

Have to agree.
It'd be great to say positive things, but Alan Kelly's shocker last Friday puts the lie to any notion that we have a decent standard in the EL.
