I'm not going but I will be rooting for Sevilla after the wonderful reception afforded to Celtic fans in that city before and after the UEFA Cup final in 2003.

Don't bother. Johnny Giles doesn't rate the competition. :p

Hope you enjoy it. Personally I don't find it very appealing, I find Middlesboro about as enjoyable as piles. I'll be doing well if I watch it let alone go to it.

To be fair, they were 2 exciting games but IMO that's the exception rather than the rule when it comes to 'Boro. I just don't find them enjoyable to watch (although the same could be said for most teams in England) and I think their fans are quite fickle.

I remember watching the early rounds and seeing the ground less than half full for a few of the group games and thinking it was a kick in the teeth for the Chairman Steve Gibson. He has ploughed tens of millions into the club to deliver European football and once it has been achieved the fans can't be bothered getting off their arses to support the team.

But of course we'll be subjected to the usual clichés from the commentators on Wednesday about "great supporters" etc...

You're right, even the Basel game (Qtr final) was half empty. The SF was pretty full.

Boro have only got 9k tickets, the stadium in Eindhoven only holds 32k which seems remarkably small for a european final.

Put your money on spurs to do well next year in it.

Ye, definitely. They have to be strong favourites. This year I think Boro will do it. I fancied them to win it from the start and I'm kicking myself I didn't put a bet on them to win it when they went 2 down against steaua.

I can't see how Spurs are. They didn't get past the first rounds in the English League Cup or the FA Cup. They lost to Grimsby, I think, in the League Cup and Leicester in the FA Cup. I don't think that makes them strong favourites for a cup competition.

Anyone else think its typical amateurism from RTE that they refer to Sevilla as Seville ?

I'll tell you what really grinds my gears, when Aidan Cooney insists on saying Internacional instead of Inter or even Internazionale. They're Italian, not Spanish!

Have a fiver on Seville at 16/1 (last of the big spenders) so will be cheering 'em on.

Would gladly spend potential winngins towards getting a ticket for the Champions League Final (no laughing down the back). Have flights etc. already booked but getting a ticket seems impossible.

Any spares anyone?(I said no laughing)

"even by boro's super human powers of recovery this game is over"..:D

Final score 4-0. Sevilla destroyed Boro. I think it was the decision to switch the formation to 4-2-4 when it was still only 1-0 that caught themselves out.

English Premiership... muck La Liga ... Class

I only saw bits of it in the pub but looked like england outplayed by spain. Shows the huge gulf in league standards. Spain have had a variety of teams in the CL & getting to the final of the Uefa Cup whereas no team outside top 4 in the EPL has done anything in 10 seasons of european football - Middlesboros final appearance & Leeds lunacy excepted.

& Leeds 'lunacy'.....Peter Ridsdale et al?

At this stage, La Liga is by far the best place to play anywhere in Europe.
Spanish clubs kind of dominate the european club scene in the same way the Italians did throughout the 80' and 90's.

Wouldnt agree with you there. True Sevilla definitely deserved to win but i feel 4-0 flattered them somewhat . Also you arent really comparing like with like there Middlesborough are the 12th best team in the Premiership and Sevilla are the 5th best team in La Liga.

It certainly did not, Middlesbrough had 2 chances and a penalty shout and were consistently cut apart at will by Seville. They were indeed 4 goals and possibly more better than an awful Middlesbrough side. Too many of their better players not turning up really killed them.

I'll play devils adovcate, but should Arsenal beat Barca next Weds (a possibility) will all these quotes and posts be reversed re: EPL vs La Liga?

I don't think La Liga is considered the best league in europe just based on last night. Its probably a tight fight for 2nd place between England & Italy who both have similar structures (i.e. top 4 is the same almost every year).
