Brilliant win for Ireland (and Shahid Afridi) against Gloucestershire on Sunday. Mind you, they lost to Glamorgan yesterday.

First ever away win against a county side...

Creditable performance against Glamorgan too, result notwithstanding. Perhaps we should have a thread devoted to Irish cricket given the national team's extensive schedule of ODIs over the coming months?

The A team aren't going too well against their Indian counterparts - they were bowled out for 178 in Abu Dhabi this afternoon (JF Mooney 41, KJ O'Brien 36, BA Baracus absent due to failed drugs test having informed panicked ICU officials that he "wun't gettin' on no plane.")

A cause for celebration? It would be a bit like England beating Offaly in bogball!!

Yep the stardard has certainly improved but if our best players declare for England we'll never make it to the top :(

That should read "continue to declare for England"

As far as I am aware they are only declaring at test level and can continue to play ODIs for Ireland until such time (if ever) that we are capable of becoming a test nation which is fair enough.

No, Ed Joyce cannot play ODIs for Ireland. He cannot play in the World Cup (unless England pick him...)

Correct (alas). Although I am not sure how we have the likes of Alfridi playing for use in the ODIs against other teams but I assume this is limited to English one day competitions and not internationals.

Well in the C&G we're treated like a club side so anyone could play for us. BUt for internationals he, and Joyce, are out...

Has Joyce any chance of getting in the England squad? What club does he play for? I'd watch cricket but won't claim to "follow" it.

Joyce is in England's A team this weekend against Sri Lanka.
