He has just came on as a sub for Spurs after a long spell out
of the first team. I wonder if this is a return to form (if return is
the right word!). Hard to tell how he played from the radio.
Robbie Keane was subbed at about 1/2 time (injured).

Reid done well, even if it was only for 15 minutes. Unfortunately still looks very heavy.

As a sub he doesn't need stamina. Being heavy means he doesn't hurt himself when he falls as can roll over...

reid is a very good player and hopefully he will get a good run in the spurs side next season.. good to see him back

I was just wondering if his recent appearance was an indication of
improved form or possible some sort of ruse to sell him in the summer,
or possibly to convince him to stay. Having said that it was a very
important game for Spurs so I expect he was playing purely on merit
which is a good sign. I would probalby have him in the first 11 too, but it's
hard to be sure of that when he is not getting a first team game.
I wonder if he will play a part in on Saturday, it being Spur's last Premiership
game of Season?

lads having watched Reid many times for Forest since he broke through into the 1st team there I'd have to say his build does not effect his talent in anyway. He has always been a big lad around the waistline but when he has the ball he is quick and that is all that matters. I hope he leaves Spurs next season and goes to a club who gives him game time because he is a quality player.

If he is good enough he will play at Spurs. He was ahead of players such as Lennox in the pecking order but lost his place because he wasn't good enough. Its alwasy funny he hear people say players should leave when not getting a game. Robbie Keane stuck at it & proved himself. reid could move to the Championship but wouldn't do him much good.

Duff and Reid I am sure have both tried to play their way into their respective club sides but have not had much luck this season. Every player wants to play and if that is not on the horizon I don't see why you shouldn't move on. Reid could do a great job for Everton, Portsmouth, Wigan etc next season if they are tempted.

He's on his way out of WHL.....He didn't 'Shape' up, so he's being shipped out, along with Kelly.
All rumour for now. Let's actually see a quote where he or Jol say that he's leaving.

Sure he can. Of course, the top clubs won't let it pass, but at a midtables club, he's skillful enough to compensate. Hell, Dunne did it for years.

very poor article. as pete says, not one quote, and it fails to mention the massive injury problems that he has had this season. Also calls teamo tainio a youngster, im sure hes 26??

poorly researched, and just written for the sake of writing an article on a topic that wouldn't suprise many people.

pity about Andy I still have not given up on him at Spurs or anywhere. I think is best position is as a playmaker continental style and I wonder if the premier league has room for these type of players. I mean Gerarrd and Lampard are more Roy Keane types.
As regards physique he reminds me of Stoikov the great bulgarian player and who wouldn't have had him in their side

The biggest barrier to his progress with Spurs is to do with his injuries. He was injured in December and again in Febuary with 4 to 6 weeks recovery each time.
If he was fit to play at least he would certainly have been used instead of Danny Murphy. As Davids was suspended last week it will be interesting to see if Reid makes the next game.
Reid looked the part for his 15 mins or so appearance. He is a much better distributer of the ball than Davids.

I think that it's encouraging that as soon as he recovers from injury Jol involves him again at the most critical run of games Spurs has had in years. As soon as he was fit in January(?) he was played against Fulham, did well but twisted his knee again after 30 mins.

Fine player but unfortunately he still has to fully establish himself. Not all his own fault by any means.

Agree about Davids - flatters to deceive. Fails to complete a lot of passes.

Also agree that Reid's best position, especially for Ireland, could well be centrally. He and Steven Reid could complement each other very well. A very skillful user of the ball and a real box-to-box, ball winning strong runner is a great combo on paper. I really think we need both of these fully fit next year.

Of topic but if Lampard was a Roy Keane type player he'd be the best midfielder ever to play in the premiership. He has no aggression, can't tackle and lacks everything that made Keane the player he became.

Anyway, I agree with your main point. Andy Reid is surely going to have to move somewhere that are looking for a central midfielder. I'd love to see him play there for a few matches. He has all the attributes needed and would get stuck in as much as anyone when his team are without the ball.

No chance Reid could cut in central midfield at the highest level. He will get his chance at Spurs although probaby from the bench initially its just up to him to show if he is good enough. Spurs don't have a recognised left wing player so the role is available...
I've said it a few times but I can't stop comparing him to Emre. I think he could be as good as Emre if played in the centre.

Emre can run & tackle. Spurs play solid middle 2 in midfield with pace on the wings. Reid will not get in ahead of Carrick, Jenas, Davids, Murphy...

Reid's tracking back and tackling has been very impressive this season. Before he got dropped in October only Taino had put in more tackles than him. I think pace is more important if you're a winger which is another reason he'd probably be more suited to Reid. The reason I mention Emre is he was a little chubby left winger at one stage too. :) Alan Quinn is a player that was converted from a left winger to central midfielder too.

Reid made his Ireland debut in the centre against Canada and got man of the match. His pass for Robbie Keane's goal against Israel was incredible and he is a player that can make them passes on a regular basis.

As well as the Israel goal, I remember Reid picked out Robbie from central midfield at Highbury last season & Robbie headed a sitter wide.

None of that matters if he cannot play at consistent level for 90 minutes. He impresses as a sub as doesn't need stamina for 15 minutes.

You are right there eirebhoy, he is a very similar player to Emre and i really do think that Reid has the potential to be as good as him. He is a very intelligent footballer and can do things for us in the centre of midfield. He did it week in week out at a consistent level for Forest and given the chance he will do it again at Spurs.He is a must for me in the Irish first 11 irrespective of his current position at spurs.

Must say I've been a fan of Reids ever since his Notts Forest days and genuinely thought he could make the step up when he moved to Spurs.

I think his best course of action now could be to move to a lesser Prem team (a Portsmouth/Fulham/one of the promoted clubs) where he can get a regular spot in the centre, improve his fitness and hopefully prove a lot of doubters wrong...

I still think he is one of the most technically skillful players that we have and one of the few that can play a killer pass...

I really hope he stays injury-free now for a good while so that he can re-establish himself...if so, he will prove to be a very important player for Ireland for years to come...

Speaking of 'fat' footballers, does Andy Reid look any fatter then
Maradonna at his peak? He is certaintly slimmer than Maradonna is now
without a shadow of a doubt, and he hasn't even had his stomach stapled yet!!
