Galway United have appointed former skipper Johnny Glynn as a Sports Performance Consultant to the club as they continue their efforts for a return to the top flight.

Glynn, skipper and scorer of the winning goal for Galway United in 1991 FAI Cup Final, has a degree in Sports Science and has worked with a number of organisations including the IRFU and the GAA.
Working closely with team manager Stephen Lally and his assistant Jim Noone, Glynn will assess and assist in areas such as fitness, conditioning, workrate, discipline and team development.
Reporting to the club's Board of Directors, he will assist in youth development structures and liaise with the FAI and Galway & District League representatives to establish strong ways of taking the game forward in Galway.

The Galway United Chairman, John Fallon, said that Glynn's appointment was another major step forward for the club as they build towards re-establishing themselves in the top flight of Irish soccer.

"He is an iconic figure in this club, but Johnny Glynn is being appointed for the skills he will now bring to Galway United, rather than what he did on the pitch.

"Johnny is very experienced in sports development and will help us move forward. We are an ambitious club and we are putting strong structures in place which will serve this club for many years to come," he said.
