Just wondering if anyone here has gone to see the film "The Ringer" and
what you all thought of it.

I saw it the other week basicially cos I'd seen almost everything else in
the cinema (back living at home to save cash while my house is being
finished so doing anything to get out of the house)

Anyways, even though it is endorsed by the Special Olympic committee,
I thought it was nothing more than a cheap laugh at people with handicaps,
and then all rolled into a happy ending where the guy gets the girl and
everyone understands everyone.

Now I'm not a 100% PC who sees offence in everything and anything but
I just found the film to be in very poor taste. Its supposed to make people
more aware of people with special needs etc but I feel all it achieved (from
the people in the cinema I saw it in) was mocking people with disabilities and
giving people a laugh at their expense.

It trys to put across a message of "laugh with us, not at us" but from what I seen
failed miserably

Tacky humour, bad acting by some (Knoxxville by far the worst offender) but I do admit to getting a few decent laughs out of it.

Regarding how handicapped people are regarded in the movie its a case of whether you see the glass as half full or half empty.

I personally was suprised by the quality of acting by some of the Special Athletes in the film so you could take that as a positive.
