LOI clubs in Cork city

I was talking to a few friends of mine about football in Cork city and we were going through all the various clubs there have been down through the years in the LOI. I think we put together a fairly complete list, but then we had the problem of which clubs were the same just under a different name (Cork Alberts and Albert Rovers being an obvious one), and then we wondered which club survived the longest (even with name changes) at LOI level (Albert Rovers still exist I think at AUL level!). Can anyone help out? Apologies if it was a thread once-upon a time but I'm just curious.

Interesting site and funny in places. I'm sure there are lots of facts there, but it's hard to know which are true, and which are park of the p*ss take.

This is from Uefa's website ... and they don't seem to know either.
"Cork FC, Cork Celtic FC, Cork Hibernians FC, Cork Alberts FC and Cork Everton FC all came and went before City formed."

This is from rsssf ...

The team names in the STIGonline article are all accurate, as best as I can tell. The article was written with the help of rsssf - you can check every final league table in the Ieeland section and see just which Cork clubs were around when. They aren't all the same team of course, and at times there were two (and I think three at one stage??) clubs in the league at the same time.

Thanks Tiktok and everyone else. There's still a mismatch of all the different strands of information, but would it be fair to say the clubs in Cork were:

1. Fordsons-Cork-Cork City-Cork United-Cork Athletic (1924 - 1957) *34 years
2. Cork Bohemians (1932 - 1934) * 2 years
3. Evergreen United-Cork Celtic (1951 - 1979) *29 years
4. Cork Hibernians (1957 - 1976) *20 years
5. Albert Rovers-Cork Alberts-Cork United (1976 - 1982) *7 years
6. Cork City ( since 1984) *23 years

So, Fordsons etc were around for the longest, then Evergeen etc., then City (City have had the same name for the longest).
And the current Cork City had/have a strong association with Cork Celtic.

Does that sound logical! Does anyone have parents or grandparents etc. that know much about the older clubs? I must try and find that book on Cork soccer ... I wonder was Plunkett Carter behind that one as well!?

There is no direct connection between Cork Celtic and Cork City.
I researched this very topic for an article in a general LOI Fanzine called
" Head The Ball" back in the late 1980s!
