:mad: How the officals gave the finn harps goal Iwill never know.
In the first half I thought we were class which produced Frans Goal but it all went wrong in the second half and what worries me is we defended to deep for the whole for the last 20 mins of the game.
How the goal straight from throw was given I will never know (a disgrace)

With 4 mins to go Finn Harps took a long throw that went straight into the back ofthe net and the ref gave even though nobody got a touch
even the finn harps fans behind the goal could not belive their look

Minnock, who always has verrrrrrrrrrrry long throw-in's, threw the ball into the goalmouth where it bounced past goalkeeper Gough into the net. The ref pionted to his foot to indicate that it hit of Gough's foot.
TV3 were covering the game so video evidence will illustrate exactly what happened. Regardless, the scoreline stands.
Nightmare.

Worst thing about tonight was our Defence was too deep for long periods towards the end when we should have been pushing on for a second goal to kill the game

The linesman and ref would want to read up the rules book. The mistake they made cost us 2 points and consequently allow Rovers to move ahead.:mad:

Galway United 1-1 Finn Harps
There was drama a-plenty at Terryland Park on Friday night where a hotly-disputed last-minute goal helped Finn Harps to a point against Galway United – denying the Tribesmen the chance to take over at the top of the First Division table.
Galway led through Fran Carter’s first half goal and appeared booked for a win that would have lifted them above Shamrock Rovers at the summit.
However, Harps struck a sensational leveller at the death – although there was plenty of controversy about their equaliser.
A long throw from Jonathan Minnock into the Galway penalty area appeared to evade everyone on its way into the United net.
However, referee Padraig Sutton awarded the goal, much to the consternation of the home side who protested loudly against the decision.
Rattled by that, Galway could even have conceded a winner before the end, with Gary Crossan and Barry Curran going close for the Donegal men.
Carter had fired Galway ahead two minutes before the break, but the late drama ensures that Shamrock Rovers remain top of the table.
The Hoops can extend their advantage to four points with victory over Kildare County at Station Road on Saturday night.

Couldn't tell ya but the linesman was just as bad if not worse.The ref avoided all the controversy by running away from the players,he knew well he made a mistake.
Still though thats 3 draws...were becoming specialists.Our strikers aren't up to at the moment and were defending too deep.We sat back for alot of the second half.

I Agree we need to score more, and in games when we are 1 up, we need to push on, and get a second goal to kill the game off, instead of this **** trying to defend the lead
As I see it, Galway fully deserved this for sitting back when they got ahead after scoring a great goal. The longer the 2nd half went on the more this happened, and although the goal should not have stood it was deserved as Harps had been on top for so long.
Considering the amount of players the throw almost hit I guess the ref just thought it must have touched someone- but it certainly didn't! The ref was poor overall, he gave everything to GU in the first half but seemed to level out after that. The linesman at our end made brutal decisions in both halves.

The goal has been credited to Marc Mokendi who says he got a touch.

In fairness, the goal shouldn't have stood, but they deserved to get a draw.
Gough pulled off a number of fine saves and we were pretty awful in the second half. When Foley came on, the shape of the team was unbalanced and no-one was playing right midfield for about 5 minutes. Nigel Keady, who had a great game, was getting no support as Foley pushed infield. Lally told Mixie to swap with Foley yet nothing changed. Poor communications between sideline and pitch. Sort it out.

What I don't understand is how Galway didn't manage to stop it before it went in. Surely some of yer players could have booted it away or at least the goalie to save it?:confused: Was the throw in hit with such pace or what?

Good point....we should have cleared it but we didn't.It was an incredibly long throw in that bounced awkwardly and into the net.No one touched it on its way=NO GOAL!

such a f*ckin boring loada sh*te dat game was. galway were better team for 65 mins but that's just because harps were dire. when breen came on harps improved so much and definitely deserved somethin from the game. i was up the far end of the stand so i couldn't be sure but i definitely didn't think any1 got a touch&was surprised when the goal was given. if i was lally i'd have murphy in midfield for yer next game cos yer midfield was poor in both home games. raf watch: better than the last home game but still not as good as he can be. my dad was talkin to his mum yesterday&she said he hasn't settled properly yet cos of all the driving he has to do. i was talkin to him briefly last wk and he seems happy enough

in my 30 years going to terryland thats the first time i have seen a goal given from a throw, its against the rules, i dont mind refs making mistakes but this guy clearly didnt know the rules. all the players looked at him even the harps players he just shrugged his shoulders and pointed to the centre circle and he didnt even realise till goughy told him. he didnt know the rules. Pat kelly at the refs dept in the fai has a lot to answer sending down amateurs like that. I wouldnt mind refs fees for that game probably amounted to €800 its shocking.
at the same token harps were coming at us strongly and in the end they could have went away with the 3 points, we got shaky
I doubt sincerely that the Harps lad got a touch and Goughie for one certainly didn't. Hugely frustrating.
We did farely well in the first half, but overall the result was about a fair reflection of the game. I don't know why we deemed it necessary to sit back so much in the second half, in which any chances that were created were at our end.
I know Lal is very intent on us keeping clean sheets, but that shouldn't prompt our entire team to try playing out the game with a 1-0 lead. Murph was heading for the corner flag with about ten minutes left.
The positives were Franny, Mixie and our back four. Whoever was doing the ratings in The Star gave Ronan Frawley 6; he must have been picking his figures at random because he was absolutely outstanding, as was Nigel. Billy excelled, while Alan recovered from a couple of ropey moments in the first half.
The substitution of Ciaran for Stevie Gavin was interesting. I'm sure Lal didn't intend it to result in us having a gaping hole down the left, where they made hay and eventually scored that goal. We lost our shape altogether in the final 20 minutes or so and we should have more belief about ourselves.

Nrver mind what the Harps say the goal was bul**** but was galway utd own fault we were so poor in the second half harps could have won it:mad:
it has to be the worst harps team I have seen in years so Lally has sort things out soon or else it will be a long season for Galway utd fans
which is some feat and goughy hardly saw it as it bounced between his legs not over him as some reports had it.I was right in line with it as we had just started to go to our fulltime positions.The ref bottled it but the linesman should have been consulted as he had exactly the same view as I had all in all it ranks up there with the worst decisions I have ever seen.It was a local caneraman that was at the game and the tape is heading to TV3 hopefully it capyures the ball going between goughies legs as it will prove what everyone bar the officials saw as a partisan decision.
The officials didnt leave the ground until everyone was gone which surely proves a point and the referees inspector was just out before them.
We did play too deep in the second half and have to go for it against teams and not sit back .Dundalk on thursday wont be easy,

When did the FAI start an officials exchange program with the USL? :D That call is as bad as some that I saw at Seattle Sounders matches last year, like the deliberate handball of a Sounders header on the goal line by a Puerto Rico defender, the (female) ref looking right at it from about 15 yards away, and NO CALL!!!

watched tv3 last night - gough was asleep long throw bounces after defender misses the header - he could have caught it kicked it etc.
even if he expected the pair in front of him to get it first - he had plenty of time to react
from what i saw i can easily see why the ref assumed it hit off him - and contrary to what was mentioned above - most the harps players celebrated it straight away - for the gift it was
come on utd. - want to beat your record 9 draws in a row of a season or two ago
mid table mediocraty beckons otherwise :o
behind it the ball beat a 6' 5" c.b. and goughy had no chance to react as the ball landed and bounced between his legs as his view was totally obscured. On another point I doubt if you will see that ref for a month or so I wonder why?

The goal maybe shouldn't have stood, but really the keeper should be shot for letting it in. If he had've delt with it proberly, you's would have gotten the 3 points and we wouldn't be having this discussion. It looked like a hard decision for the ref to make (not condoning it or making excuses) but their have been far worse decisions made.

the worst thing about the eircom league espically in the frist division the refs seem to make the wrong decision week in week out
