Good news indeed. Looking forward to catching a game there when it's built.

Though I still reckon you're daft not to move to Letterkenny.... :)

when is the estimated time of completion?

I guess the target date would be the start of next season, but that may not be that realistic! The stadium could certainly be built that fast, it's the legal agreements and such that really eat up time. Anyway, the main thing is it's definatley going to happen, and relatively soon at that.

The original target date was the start of next season, but you know builders in this country and target dates. I'd imagine sometime in the Summer of 2007 it should be finished

Harps aim to sell Finn Park

Finn Harps are set to seek tenders from developers interested in acquiring their current home, Finn Park, in Ballybofey, and build their new 6,500-all-seater stadium a short distance away in Stranorlar.

Emmet Malone reports.

The club hopes to strike a deal whereby the company acquiring Finn Park for redevelopment will pay for it by building the new ground, for which a site and planning permission have been acquired.

"We've agreed the location with Donegal County Council and got planning permission so we're hoping that an agreement can be reached by midsummer with the contracts taking a couple of months more after that," said Patsy Lafferty, who is overseeing the project on behalf of the club.

"The new location is only about a 10-minute walk from Finn Park, which has effectively become too valuable to play football on," he said. "It's adjacent to Finn Valley Athletic Club's home and the council is intending to put in a swimming pool and leisure centre there too. In the longer term we intend putting in an all-weather complex, but for the moment the priority is to get the stadium up and running."

John Delaney, John Byrne and Bob Breen of the FAI expressed their support for the development after visiting the site on Monday, and the club hopes to receive significant support from the Department of Sport once tendering has been completed and it is clear how much cash must be raised to complete the work.

The project marks a massive step forward for a club that five years ago was struggling to stay afloat financially. Harps officials said yesterday the club had effectively cleared debts of around €500,000 in recent years and, after some difficult times, was now in a position to make progress.

agree 100% my good man.
Harps will never move though, but I wouldn't rule out a Letterkenny team in the league before long as Letterkenny rovers have just bought up property outside the town.
I would expect them to be putting a push on for league status maybe in the next 5 years.

Do Harps expect to build all the stadium at once or will it be in phases (ie one stand every year or something like that) Best of luck with stadium Harps

Good development along with Athlone and Drogheda. Now if we ever got our stand started we'd have a few tidy all seater grounds in this country to take another excuse from the masses.

1928- Part of the agreement with the trustees is that the stadium will be completed before the land at Finn Park is handed over, so it will all be built in one go. I'm not sure about the training facilities etc, but I'd imagine the deal will see them being completed immediately after the stadium is complete. Basically it will be in the interests of whoever wins the contract to build the stadium as quickly as they can, because until they do they don't get the current Finn Park- which is what they're in the deal for in the first place.
