I was half asleep listening to the radio but i thought i heard that city get an extra 50K now that reading got promoted. If its ture, then along with the money for internationals, its making the transfer fee look slightly more respectable...

We're certainly due some money but the exact figure is being debated as is the currency which the figures are being quoted in.

Irish striker Kevin Doyle's headed equaliser for Reading against Leicester on Saturday last activated a transfer clause which netted Cork City a €30,000 cash bonanza.

City Secretary Gerry Harris confirmed today that the eircom Premier League defending champions would be benefiting from Reading's promotion.

Harris said, "We are entitled to an extra €30,000 from Reading following their promotion because of clauses in Kevin Doyle's and Shane Long's transfers but we have not received it yet.

"We will also receive €10,000 from Reading because Kevin won a full international cap."

Shane Long also moved from Turners Cross to the Madejski Stadium at the same time. Clauses in the transfer contracts of both players entitle Cork City to extra cash if Reading are promoted to the Premiership.

That was from RTE.

Cork City are set to benefit further from Kevin Doyle's transfer

The Royals ended a 135 year exile and secured promotion to the England's top tier for the first time in over a century after a 1-1 draw with the Foxes.

Former Turners Cross favourite Doyle, ensured that Steve Coppell's side would be playing in the Premiership next season with an 84th minute headed equaliser at the Walker Stadium.

Doyle, who has netted 15 league goals in the Championship this season, was transferred from Cork City to Reading last summer for a fee believed to be close to €117,000.

Shane Long also moved from Turners Cross to the Madejski Stadium at the same time. Clauses in the transfer contracts of both players entitle Cork City to extra cash if Reading are promoted to the Premiership.

Meanwhile 22-year-old Doyle revealed that Leicester, who are eying up a place in the play offs, were very determined that his side did not get promoted in their back yard.

He said: "The game was slipping away from us at one stage and Leicester weren't making it very easy for us as they are trying to make the play offs".

"But thankfully I got my head to Jim's corner and it when in and other results went our way and then the celebrations began after the final whistle and it really was a fantastic day."

Well it's 50k more than we have and it can only help Cork which is not to our advantage!

What's that got to do with anything ? Nothing to do with Bray what so ever....

And it does'nt take away the fact that they got done on the deal !

Exactly Roo ... this does make the deal any better, it was part of the deal .... now that we are getting it, its so much better? ... ballax !!

Simple fact of the matter is we got done people need to stop denying that. Its hard to swallow but we have no choice. We all know who to blame.

I swear to god .... i actually hate the guy, its compounded every time it is rubbed in out face. We are have some of our own fans turn on the club and supporting Reading over this, some just cant see the woods from the trees. Untold damage by the kunt.

Who are you telling? We're only just recovering from the mess he dragged us into.

Not to mention we got NOTHING at all for Doyle

I think you are really saying..... I love to say I told you so....;)

I am delighted that there was no damage done to our season just gone.... we were luck Pat's are still recovering and it is a credit to them that they are, they could of gone bust.

Thankfully he was found out and thankfully people can see what he has done. If they hate him or still love is besides the point but the whole affair has shown a lot of clubs what they could have to deal with, should the hire such a *******

But thats the thing Dricky ... Limerick still went head long into it and nearly Waterford before them.

Ya, that's great news.

Big chance we might eventually recoup what Doyler was worth at the time. €250,000 to €500,000 imo.

But we should have been getting that anyway .... we are still 'out of pocket' for the want of a better word.

Yeah, good point actually .... we are far better off now actually, with or without the money.

Face, i think we were gonna get ripped off anyway. From what i gather City were only put in a position to negotiate such a clause as Reading conceded that they came to know of the clause in a less than fair manner. You can bet that if we got €250k for Doyler at the time, then we wouldn't have got such a clause as this.
Looks like the best of a bad situation to me.

Risteard, no way man .... sell on clauses were the first components of any contract going back 30-40 years i'd say .... its not like they are a new thing, so much so that they are bog standard additions to any contract.

It was the clause that capped the negotiations being started (help me out, whats the name of that clause again) that catch us, a clause that was 'advised' by a certain 'greatest City fan ever, leader of the Rebel Army' type character. That clause basically stripped our club of its assets and should never be forgotten. It should be taken to our graves.

If that's true, then we will always be robbed.
It's just that Lennox or Jerry Harris said something along the lines of we've finally sorted a sell on clause.
Didn't know sell-on-clauses were that widespread.

Doyle had a sell on clause at a very low value as we all know. Reading did not have to add any further clauses for caps or promotion but i would think city tried to get them in with promise of a quick deal as other clubs were sniffing around & Reading could have lost out.

Clubs will never be sad to pay promotion or international cap clauses as means as is win-win.
