bit worried about the potential fixture congestion. And afraid to pick a game to come home for in April/May if it keeps up like this!

0-0,poor result imo. We were playing against 10 men for the last 20 mins and we didnt capitalise. I think its stupid to play 1 man up front when playing at home. We definitely should have won it,whats the story with bringing on Robbie Martin on for the last 2 mins
I also thought it was a disgrace that Davy Byrne was booed off the pitch by the Sligo supporters. Fair enough it was a poor decision by the ref to send the sligo player off but like why did they boo davy byrne?it wasnt as if he asked to be tackled and he surely was feigning the injury as I heard after the match that he was taken to hospital with a suspected broken ankle. I think that it was a very unsporting reaction from the Sligo fans.

In fairness all fans do that in the heat of the moment....half of them do it just for the sake of it.I don't think the player concerned will loose too much sleep over it,nor should you.

it wasn't right to boo davy byrne but it's hard not to get pist off in the heat of the moment when such a scandalous decision has been made against ur team. longford had 3 good chances but i really don't think ye deserved to win, nor did we. ye were better team, but still nothin special, in 1st half but ye were atrocious in 2nd half. what's mattews at playin 1 up front?! flancare is a nice ground but don't really like the stand cos of all them poles.

sorry but the sending off was correct, it was a two footed tackle that split davys leg open. i was standing at the dugout directly in front of it and it was two footed but the foot up, thus doctor was called as he needed stitches below his knee, how did he get them, grass, no studs........

I have to agree it was a shocking tackle and deserved a red card.If you lunge in with 2 feet like that your asking to be sent off.As regards the game it was a poor enough affair.Sligo were there for the taking all night and we didn't do it.Stephen Paisley was poor as was Dean Fitzgerald.Terrible night weather wise aswell but a plus has to Alan Kirby's performance. He played really well and the free role suits him. When playing 4-4-1-1 you need to pass the ball well and support your striker which we only did a few times.Alan should have changed it the minute the Sligo player got sent off but he didn't so that's the end of it.No goals leaked as yet but none scored either so it's the same old story and with Dublin City next up we will probably struggle to score against them aswell.
Many at the game last night?

the main stand was full(at least 1/3 of that sligo fans) and another hundred scattered around the place.
What does that stand hold?

so 500 sligo fans.....would be about right.
would anyother side bring that many away fans to Flancare?

Not for a league match.I'd say there was about 1600 at the match last night which was good for a Monday night and with the weather aswell people can't complain about the crowd.

a piece from www.longfordtownfc.com about the tackle
Davy Byrne, in possession in midfield, received a heavy, awkward challenge from Turner, who had studs showing in the tackle. Referee Declan Hanney didn't like the challenge, issuing a straight red card. Byrne didn't like the challenge either and now looks set for a period on the sidelines with a nasty looking ankle injury.
town 73 did you do the report ?????

I did. Winced as Turner flew in. Don't think he meant to injure Byrne, he was just a bit reckless. Thought the ref was going to show a yellow, but he was ballsy enough to show red.
Official attendance 1421.

The only one we will miss is Dillo. We have replaced the rest and yes we do have a nice ground but it could do with being covered in more.
I dont mean to be getting on the matthews out bandwagon with the season just beginning but can anyone tell me the common sense behind putting 5 in midfield and one up front at HOME to Sligo. I mean wat is he afraid of. Whats with the negativity. Fair enough it worked fine versus shels but no offence if we are serious we should be looking to beat sligo every time we play. We struggle to score with two up front never mind dessie on his own. Plus Myler and robbie martin should hav been introduced the instant a red card was issued not with two mins to go.

I think the tactic he played was 4-4-1-1.Kirby seemed to play between the midfield and Baker and he played really well.I don't think it was the best formation and as i have said before if you do play this tactic you need to pass the ball really well and you need to support your striker as quick as you get the ball up there.I fully agree about Myler and Robbie Martin though.Matthews should have reacted to the red card and go all out for the win.

Sonic - we played 4-4-1-1 to start with and created plenty early on and looked lively enough going forward (Kirby 2 chances, Dessie one, Davy Byrne 2 at least). Lost our way a bit as half wore on. As far as I could see we reverted to 4-4-2 when man was sent off, and changed again to 3-4-3 for the last couple of minutes. Realistically we had one decent attempt on target which keeper saved and 4 good chances where we missed target - Kirby, Baker, Byrne and Myler late on - I wouldn't count the header from Paiso as ref gave a corner.

out of those list of chances ronnie only kirbys effort that the keeper made a great save from were real decent chances. Too many times dessie looked isolated and the hoof ball up to him didnt help him. Im not dessies greatest fan but give the man a chance. He looks slightly more committed to the cause this season so far. He looked lively in tolka but i thought maybe that was cause it was versus shels. Maybe he is changed or is this wishful thinking.,

Dessie has moved away from the bright lights of jackeen land and has moved down the country, he is also off the drink. he's in the best shape since he joined the club.

The man has loads of ability so hopefully we can now see him at his best.
