City boss delighted with opening night performance

COMING on the back of five hastily-arranged friendlies and a short pre-season Cats boss Adrian Fitzpatrick was delighted to see his team take a point from their opening night match against Cobh Ramblers. "I was very pleased with the performance and the point," Fitzpatrick enthused.

"It's no more than we deserved. The fruits of a pre-season which required a lot of hard work and commitment from everyone at the club. "We won't get carried away, but my hope is that our players will have gained a lot in terms of confidence." Kilkenny are sitting pretty, third in the table, but Fitzpatrick isn't reading much into that. "There were a lot of games postponed last weekend, and we've another difficult one to come this weekend," he said.

Creditable draw
That's because Monaghan United arrive in town on Saturday on the back of a creditable draw away to Galway United. One thing is for sure Fitzpatrick is well qualified to gauge the strength of the Monaghan squad. Three of those drafted into the Mons squad during the pre-season arrived from Fitzpatrick's former club St Patrick's Athletic.
