Just heard from a reliable source that the match is off tonight. Most likely because the pitch is unplayable.

Lads, has there been that much rain in Limerick recently? Is this due to the continued use of the pitch by Hill Celtic - which basically means it gets no break all year round. So much for summer football. What a crock....:(

It's on AERTEL that it's off. Agree it's because we share a pitch with Hill Celtic. A Ridiculous situation for a senior team IMO. It would happen nowhere else...Thats Limerick FC for you !!

Hill Celtic are also due to play Mungret at home on sunday. Surely this game can't go ahead, it could render the pitch unplayable for weeks if it does.

Seems a bit of a joke ground not playable for game 1 of the season...

Numerous other eL sides shares their pitches with other teams...

I'd reckon its very large odds on that the Sunday game will go ahead. They don't give a sh1t about the pitch - a bunch of mullockers can play on any surface.

There used to be - many years ago - a back pitch up there. Is that still there. Is there an arrangement that can be reached where they use that pitch. Alternatively, it might pay the club to rent a junior pitch for them. I'm sure we can all remember the last time we had to leave Hogan park when the FAI told the club that the pitch was up to standard.....

Can you give me an example of a club that shares with a junior team so that the pitch is played on every week of the year?

Not every week, but near enough. Coming up to the end of May there will be an average of 2 games per week with all the Cup and League finals from all the divisions, both Junior and Juvenile football, Boys and Girls !!!!

The box is not used every week - finals etc are played on it. The same goes for Terryland. There may be periods towards the end of the junior season when the both have to accommodate a lot of junior games - but that is after a winter of (in the most part) inactivity and it is also in more clemetn weather conditions.

Also, Tolka and Dalymount are used every week in the summer.

I think this is a special case - where the pitch gets no break. And it is ridiculous that this situation has arisen. I don't particularly blame the current administration because this goes back to Fr Joe allowing Hill Celtic us eit in the first place and the last adminsitration (albeit without much option) abandoning the ground to them.

Rathbane was originally the home of Limerick City, Fr Joe undermined our position in the ground by allowing this junior club in - it should never have happened.

How can it be fixed? The club may have to buy out Hill Celtic by agreeing to rent an alternative pitch or perhaps the city council could provide a facility for them. This is going to get increasigly messy - just like the pitch.:ball:

Well first up lads remember we are sub letting from hill celtic, in saying that though joe young did leave us down by stating that the ground was ours first and then saying it was owned by everyone. Hill celtic have a new ground not too far away and its almost ready but there not leaving till there asked to by the trustee, joe young. Yes there is a back pitch well suitable for hoofball but why should the main tennant use a back pitch? :o The pitch has not had a break at all in three years but has loads of grass on it compared to a lot of other senior pitches in the league.Goal mouths couldnt even be re sodded during our off season such was the usage. But maybe the extra week off it will give the pitch a recovery period, oh and hill celtics game for sunday is also off.

You are the height of restraint and diplomacy Gael (if that is your real name) :)

I think Celtic should take the back pitch because they were not the original tenants/owners of the ground. Really it is irrelevant what pitch they play on - it does matter for Limerick. We can't use the back pitch, they could. Perhaps our trustee could ask them to use that pitch until their new one si finished - in fact let them use the back pitch as an alternate ground if they want - although I'd rather see them gone for good. It is good to hear they have a new pitch - best of luck to them on it - maybe even well wear. :)
