The Management Committee of the eircom League at its meeting last night (March 7th) imposed a fine of €1,200 on Mr Sean Connor, Manager of Sligo Rovers FC for comments made by him which were critical of an eircom League referee and which were published in the media. The Management Committee of the League decided that €1,000 of the fine be suspended until the end of the 2006 season on condition that Mr Connor refrains from making similar comments during the course of the 2006 season. It was also decided that in the event of a re-offence, the €1,000 will be payable immediately and any such additional offence or offences will be dealt with separately.

The Management Committee of the League expressed its extreme disappointment at the comments in question and has written to all eircom League clubs today (March 8th) to reiterate that critical comments from staff, players and officials of clubs will not be tolerated and will be dealt with by the League in an appropriate manner.

Something about that female assistant ref, running up and down the sidelines in slow motion (like the ones in baywatch) was distracting him from what was going on on the pitch, and that he was missing the half time talk because he had to go choke the chicken !! :D

if seanie wants have another go at deering i'll chip in €20 towards the fine, better still if he wants to hit him a slap i'll give him €100 towards a fine. at the start of the game deering made o'grady leave the pitch to change his socks&complained about the nets which held up pretty well throughout the game, gave out ridiculous yellow cards............

sham of a fine.amounts to censorshipI agree completly and what he said wasn't even that extreme.

The level of inflation in the fines in phenominal. 1,200 euro is about three weeks wages.
