Norway have finished top of the UEFA Fair Play rankings for the 2001/02
season.
SK Brann enter UEFA Cup
The result means that the Norwegian Football Association will be able to
enter another club for the 2002/03 UEFA Cup qualifying round. The club in
question is SK Brann, who finished third in the Norwegian domestic Fair
Play competition, but who earn a UEFA Cup berth because Rosenborg BK and
Viking FK have already qualified for the UEFA Champions League and UEFA Cup
respectively.
Two other associations to be drawn
Two other associations will be able to enter an additional team for the
UEFA Cup qualifying round. They will be drawn from among all the national
associations who ended the 2001/02 UEFA season with a Fair Play rating of
8.00 or above.
Draw at Under-21 final
Seventeen national associations will go into the draw, which is to be made
during the half-time interval at the UEFA European Under-21 Championship
final round in Basel, Switzerland on Tuesday evening.
Ranking list
UEFA's ranking list is based on all matches played in the UEFA competitions
between 1 June 2001 and 27 May 2002. Marks are awarded to club and national
teams for, among other things, positive play, conduct of players, team
officials and spectators, red and yellow cards, and respecting of the
referee.
17 associations
The following clubs have been nominated by the 17 associations to go into
the Fair Play draw on Tuesday: Örgryte IS (Sweden), FC Lahti (Finland),
Grindavik (Iceland), Ipswich Town FC (England), VfL Borussia
Mönchengladbach (Germany), Aalborg BK (Denmark), K St Truidense VV
(Belgium), JK Tulevik Viljandi (Estonia), FC Ashdod (Israel), SC Rotor
Volgograd (Russia), FC Sochaux-Montbéliard (France), Carmarthen Town FC
(Wales), Neuchâtel Xamax (Switzerland), Debreceni VSC (Hungary), SK Sigma
Olomouc (Czech Republic), Real Sociedad (Spain) and a club from Yugoslavia.
Nominated clubs
The clubs have been nominated after either winning their domestic Fair Play
competition, or finishing behind clubs which were in the leading positions
in the national Fair Play competition, but which have already qualified for
the UEFA Champions League or UEFA Cup. Yugoslavia’s representative will be
known at the end of the Yugoslav domestic season on 6 June.
