A friend told me that you can get the irish jersey without the eircom logo on it from the umbro factory.
Did any of ye hear anything about this - he said you have to buy a set of them

Is this true?
Where is the umbro factory? - Dublin??

The jerseys without the eircom logo are strictly for the actual teams etc. Its a condition of the eircom sponsorship that all us muppets must advertise them on our bellys. The only wa to get one without the logo is from a player or if you know someone in the umbro factory! Remember Malta last time they had the jerseys for sale without the eircom logo, cheap counterfeit, even had FA Premier league on the label if i remember but the FAI lofgo was red not orange...pity

YOu used to be able to buy them abroad without the sponsor logo. Think they stopped that about 1992.

The Ireland jersies used to be manufactured in a factory in Longford called Glack. I presume this is no longer the case. I got a jersey there in the mid-90s for about half the price. However, the Opel logo was on it. As pointed out, it would be difficult to get hold of a jersey without the ugly eircom logo.

Just visited www.umbro.ie
Nice england section on the homepage but
nothing about the new Ireland kit.

I'd have thought that the .ie site might have emphasised
our new kit a bit!!! Actually I cant find a link for it at all!!!

It's another example of absolutely no respect being shown for the Ireland fans. eircom are a pathetic sponsor of the National League and I don't see them doing much for the national team either, yet the FAI are so weak they bend over backwards for them.
If eircom insist on having their vulgar logo on the national shirts then I think a compromise should be reached. A discrete logo on the sleeve or collar would suffice. I can't think of any other national side who treats their fans with such contempt. If anything, we should have to pay considerably less for the shirts since they're not genuine replicas and carry the sponsor’s logo.

The logo is the only reason why I refuse to buy the jersey. I refuse to wear the national team jersey which is sullied by the logo of a corporate sponsor. If the players don't wear it, why should I?

Given the fact that the players do not wear that exact jersey, it cannot by definition be called a 'replica' team shirt. As such, there must be a case to be made for prosecuting retailers who allege that they are selling replica national team shirts.

While, I think the new jersey is an improvement on the last one, I will certainly not buy it. However I would be interested in becoming involved in any plans to have it removed or, at least, providing punters with the option of buying the national team jersey without the logo.
