This powerful movie is being shown on RTÉ Two tonight at 21.30
It's hard hitting and thought provoking.
Edward Norton is excellent and is supported by numerous other great performances.
Not for the faint hearted, this movie gives a tremendous insight on race hate crime.
Set your reminder.
****,wouldnt have bothered renting it on friday night if i knew it was on tonight.

SPOILERS
A bit over rated i feel, yea at the time i thought it was great but it is a bit unrealistic to expected a hardened racist to change his life long held views just cos he met a nice black guy in prison

Eh, if you remember his fellow Nazis are also dealing drugs which officially is something that the Ayran brotherhood or whatever you want to call them preach against. Not only that but they buy them from the black gang in the prison. He realises that his comrades are hyprocites and his beliefs are a crock of you know what. The whole nice black guy thing is just an addition to the other stuff.
I like the film myself. A personal favourite actor of mine Avery Brooks plays a big enough role.

Oh yeh, I remember this one alright. We watched it in Religion class in 6th year and there was a coloured lad in the class! It didn't go down too well and aul' Manessa was never seen in this class again!
A very good film, but I think its over rated. 2005's CRASH is far more thought provoking IMO.

I think it's good although a tad up itself. I remember the director disowned the film, I'm not sure why but I've a feeling it was related to the final cut.

Raheny, coloured is not a politcally correct term.

Think its a quality film, that breaking the jaw on the kerb scene is one of the most horrific scenes i've seen in a film.

I think more than his jaw was broken............... Good film, don't really go into all this "thought provoking" mullarky...... I like it or I don't....

Yeah, he though Norton took over the film and made his part more...
Good, but not great film, with top, top quality acting.

Raheny, coloured is not a politcally correct term.
erm, i have had this discussion, with indians blacks, asians you name it as i was of the same beleif as you on this, however all said to me that coloured is not racist or politically incorrect, as being white myself i am coloured, therefore you are not distinguishing between any one race or colour....
anyhow back on topic, its a good film.

But the point of the term is to distinguish between white and non-white. That's why it is considered incorrect, as it is a catch all term which groups anyone who isn't white.

no poor student thats just how or possibly by whom the term is used!
technically we are all coloured.

When does someone use the term and not mean non-whites? If it also included whites then why would anyone ever use it?

saw the film again last night and i must say i thought it was great i would like to retract my earlier comments as certain elements of the film had slipped my mind in the 5 years since i had seen it last.
technically we are all coloured.
Technically, all snooker balls are coloured.

In a predominantly white community such as a Ireland. I dont see too much wrong with with it to be honest.

Technically, all snooker balls are coloured.
Technically they're not because technically, black is not a colour!
This debate belongs in Current Affairs not in a thread about a movie.

it isnt racist per se but IMO it just sounds ignorant. Maybe i am wrong. Always reminds me of The Office when Gareth says
""My dad, for example, he's not as cosmopolitan or as educated as me
and it can be embarrasing you know. He doesn't understand all the new trendy
words - like he'll say 'poofs' instead of 'gays', 'birds' instead of
'women', 'darkies' instead of 'coloureds'."
which is intended as being funny.
