Fair enough daveh, can see where you are coming from. I'd be of the opinion that anything relying on an opposition mistake is not creating a chance. It was the creating bit i was focussing on, rather than the result.
It was a good 3 points for cork. I think both sides are still a fair bit off where they'll be in 2 or 3 weeks, and I think there was enough for both teams to take plenty of positives out of.
to be honest drogheda looked more like scoring until we scored but collapsed after that.that lad fahey looks handy.connor was a liability. He fúcked up a lot.what do ye drogs fans think of him?

We made a few late on, but that was when you were down to nine men.
In fairness though,
Georgie hit the post with a free kick
Benno had a header on target from a free kick (granted there was no power behind it)
The ball was flashed across the box from a corner with O'Flynn and Bennett going close
O'Connor made a save from a long range Georgie effort (and one from Behan in the second half)
Gamble shot over (should have scored)
and that's just off the top of my head
There were few clear-cut chances for either side, Drogs shaded the quality of chances in the first half IMO, but it's a bit of a stretch to say we created nothing.

Drogs finishing was dreadful and Devine was never tested.

Definitly the best we have at the moment now Rogers is gone and I think that he's a decent keeper good shot stopper does need to work on taking crosses and delivering better kick outs. Definitly do not think he's a liability like cork fans would have you believe.
Cork fans total arrogance and laughable superiority complex is only matched in this league by their players. Get over yourselves!!

Not as many as winning :D :D
It was a good run out for both teams, Drogs in fairness have the chase everything attitude but that doesn't always work at times we really just went around them. They did congest midfield and closed space well and on Roy they put two men.
so to get 2 - 0 is good, I think on a wet pitch and another couple of months in it could of been a different match but it wasn't and as warm up go that was a good one.
Drogs played like it was a cup final but they always do. It's high risk but if it pays off they get a win. If it doesn't they mini implode.

So our players are as good as the CCFC fans are arrogant.
High praise indeed!:D

I have to say, I missed all this auld banter somethin' fierce - roll on the league :D
Pete I'd say the match attendance figure of 3000 will be beaten a fair few times in the Setanta.

I don't know what Linfield v Derry attendance was last week but wasn't much more than 3k if even. Derry v Shels won't get past that by much either. You have to also consider only about 20 away fans so its 99% city support.
How many shots on target were there in the game? I don't think any in the 1st half. Were the 2 goals on the only shots on target? So 1 for each team? ;)

Linfield released a figure of 3800, some claim it was higher than this, but thats what was released.
Linfield have to come to the Brandy, as do the Glens (tonights match - I'll agree with you) - but I'd be shocked if there was less than 3000 at the next City home match versus the Glens, but the next Linfield match will pull 3000 punters no problem.
Drogs are terrible and won't do anything of note again this season.
Colm, if we judged cork on lastnight, I would safely say they wouldn't be going for the league. thankfully I'm that naive ;)

Can anyone explain how Kelly came to be refereeing the game anyway? With the original referee falling ill just before kick-off I would have thought the senior assistant referee , Mr. Shanks , from Northern Ireland , should have taken charge , with the fourth official , Kelly , then becoming an assistant (linesman). Whats the protocol in situations like this?

The protocol is exactly as you describe.
However, look, it makes no odds. He was not biased, all the langers say and I for one agree. He is just incompetent. Bradley did connect with Behan, Fahey said something and then slid in on Murphy. All he missed was Murphy sliding in on Fahey, Behan twice blocking Fahey's free kicks with his arm and Georgie boy going through Fabio with his studs and flattening Gavin Whelan, both after he flattened Robbo with his studs. Thats all he either missed or chose to ignore. So by his standards a normal night.
And befor ethe langers start shouting Fabio could have got a second yellow.
But don't anybody tell me that Bradley's little kick at Behan (where he never even broke stride) was anyway as bad as the drink driver's tackles on Fabio and Robbo, both of which could have done real damage (or Fabios on Georgie Porgie)

And befor ethe langers start shouting Fabio could have got a second yellow. He could have gone before half time for persistant fouling, had 6 or 7 fouls overall, at least 2 of which were bookings.
I didn't think he got booked at all, Doolin rightly subbed him though.
Its amazing what one set of fans will see and fail to see depending on your persuasion.

AKAIK the fourth official, who was alan kelly, takes over as ref if the original ref cant make it,not the senior assistant, ive seen it happen in english league games so i presume its the correct course of action

Every back-pass to Connor should surely be considered a chance. There was loads of them.:D
even as a drogheda fan i think that is funny....!

It's hardly the fault of each club the Irish refs are shocking, what do we expect from the FAI never really interested in the Eircom etc in any shape or form.

I think the 4th official is the senior official on the night.
The assistant referee's might not neccessarily be referee's at all and the 4th official is the next in line.
There is obviuosly a set procedure where the ref in injured etc.

Crowd at approx 3000 not great by our standards but few Setanta Cup games will beat it.
No way the crowd was 3,000. i'd say 2,000 max

It is supposed to be decided beforehand, that in the case of the original referee being unable to do so, that either the 4th official or the senior assistant takes over. I think in this case it is pretty obvious that the 4th official should not have taken over.

I think the 4th official HAS to take over. Thems the rules.
Whether a Cork ref should have been 4th official is the crux of the matter.

He did get booked, fairly early in the first half.

Are you sure? before or after Georgie ?
I didn't even recognise Glen Fitzpatrick when he came on.
Looked more lke Glen Hansard than Fitzpatrick to be honest.

Its quiet regulare to have a local 4th official.

All the more reason then for one of the linesmen to take over. Never mind, the ref for the return match might get sick and I might get to ref it.
