With the 2006 football season about to get underway supporters visiting Turners Cross will be watching the reigning eircom League Premier Division Champions in a stadium now missing the famous Shed. This will require some adjustment for both spectators and staff on match nights and City Chairman Brian Lennox is asking for fans to remain patient as the club undergoes further transition off the pitch.
“Without The Shed it’s going to be a somewhat different Turners Cross in 2006,” he says. “With the development of the Curragh Road end of the stadium now underway, there will be some changes to how Cork City’s match nights operate. It may take a little while for both staff and spectators to get used to these new procedures but with a little patience and understanding from all I’m sure everything will run smoothly. We are all looking forward to another exciting season and the development of a fully seated Turners Cross is another important step in the development of Cork soccer.”
Some points for supporters to note ahead of the 2006 season include:
• Gate Number 1 (East end of Donie Forde Stand) will be in use for season ticket holders only.
• Gate Number 2 (East end of Derrynane Stand) will be in use for visiting supporters only. Visiting supporters will be located at this end of the Derrynane Stand (sections Q and R).
• Gate Number 3 (St. Anne’s Park end of the stadium) will be the primary entrance/exit for Cork City supporters.
• The upper sections of the Donie Forde Stand will be reserved for Diamond and Platinum Season Ticket holders, as well as the Evening Echo Family Enclosure (sections E1 and E3). Ushers will be on hand to assist with any queries and ensure that these reserved sections are only used by these groups of people. Please note that a number of Diamond Season Tickets are still available to purchase from the club, but the Platinum Season Ticket Section has sold out.
• As the teams enter and leave the field of play there will be no access to the dressing room area behind the Donie Forde Stand.
In order to ensure as little disruption and inconvenience during the coming season Cork City are asking supporters to buy their match tickets in advance and arrive at Turners Cross in adequate time to avoid delays at the turnstiles.
