MLS Goal of the Decade (http://www.mlsnet.com/MLS/mls/awards/2006/goal_of_the_decade/) ..... it does what it says on the tin !!

For the record, this is the best presented goal of the month/year/decade competition i have ever seen, very well done.

I'll second all that. Balboa's goal does it for me though.

De Rosarios free kick in 2005 would be my choice. It was more clinical than the bicycle kick. and christ, did you see the swerve he put on the ball??

Agreed, but i dont vote for set pieces in these comps, only goals from open play (i just think it is a better measure) so i'd go for Jaime Moreno 1998 .... the best goal with a team effort, they just tore the other teams defense apart.

Good criteria A Face.
In general i'd agree but not here just to recognise that DDRs banana score from the set-piece ball :) was better than Roberto Carlos v France.
Usually don't go for long-distance shots either as they're just low-percentage shots coming good.

Normally I'd say A Face is fairly spot on in not including free kicks but here you have to make an exception, that's one of if not the best free kick I've ever seen. The power on it is unreal, but the bend actually defys the natural laws of physics. Unreal, the angle from behind the taker shows it best, definitely the best goal there I'd say.

The swerve Jim Goodwin got on one of his freekicks this season was more impressive. :)

I was lucky enough to be at two of the finalists games - Mathis for the Metros in 2001 and the Woly goal in 2003. Mathis' goal was brilliant, in 2000-2001 he could do no wrong including scoring 5 in one game. Then he tore his cruciate ligament a couple of weeks after that Dallas goal and hasnt been the same since. He also scored for the US at the World Cup in 2002, then played for Hannover where he did well initially but was dropped. His final game for them was when he came on as a sub, scored the winning goal and runs over to the Hannover manager to give him the finger.
