Martin O'Neill & the England Job

There's a lot of talk about him being offered the job, and a lot of assumptions that he'd bite the FA's hand off. But writers like Patrick Barclay of the Telegraph have questioned whether an Irishman would tolerate the Loyalist chants offered by some of the English support.

What do people think? Would he take it if offered (in principle anyway, his wife's health notwithstanding)?

£4 or £5 million in the england job im sure he'd be able to put his fingers in his ears to block out the chants :)

they will have to act fast newcastle are having talks with him this week and they are offering 3 mill a year !!!! .

Well, Alex Ferguson always insisted he'd never take the England job, even suggesting he'd be "betraying his country".

Many Rangers fans follow England through & through, because Scotland isn't "British enough" for them. O'Neill would be sensitive to all this I'd imagine. I suspect he'd be aware that it wouldn't go down well among the Celtic support.

but he cant run his life by what idiots think .

just because he managed celtic does that rule out managing england or even at club level teams like liverpool ,hearts etc ....i dont think it does but i dont think he is ready for such a big job he should go to newcastle then on to england

I see according to newspaper reports that Gus Hiddink will be taking the Russian manager's job so he's out of the frame for the England job.

Its nothing to do with anyone else running his life. Martin O'Neill is an Irish Catholic who managed, supports and owns 9% of Celtic. I don't know many Celtic fans from N.Ireland who would want to manage England. Maybe O'Neill would but I couldn't see money being the deciding factor. I'd say he'll go for the Newcastle one though if any.

What problems will he encounter with Celtic fans? MON is revered by many Celtic fans as the second greatest manager in our history (2nd only to Stein) bringing some great experiences to our support after a decade of misery.

Many Celtic fans might not like the fact if he became Englands manager but I doubt if any would turn on MON. (Though you obv can't say that for 100%)
