Watched one of the videos on VH2 and was delighted to discover he got rid of that megaphone/muffler (whatever it is) thing on his voice.
Sounded great but i think he used it again for the chorus.

i used to get annoyed with the too cool for school image they had , every video concert interview they were pretending to be of there heads ...falling about the place , and this i dont care what i look like image that takes hours to set up .
ive one mate liek that he will take 45 mins to get ready then go out looking like a scruff ball that just rolled out of bed !!!!

Much better than the second album, sounds a lot closer to the first album, minus the distortion pedal attached to the mic!

im not convinced on it yet but there are some great songs in it like fear of sleep and electricityscape. best of the lot is "heart in a cage" which is supposed to be the next single.

^ I thought Room On Fire was good too.
Anyway yeah the new Strokes album is good (7/10) but I'm disapointed because they are capable of so much better. I have to say the guitar work from Valensi and Hammond is absolutely sublime.... pity about some of the weak songwriting.

Amigos! Question for youse.
I went to the Strokes site (and wasn't much impressed by it TBH) to find out about their songwriters etc but no luck.
Is it true that Casablancas (or whatever whatever way it's spelled) writes most of the songs???
I mean, the guitarist Hammond's dad wrote a string of hits in his day for others and had a few hits himself** so I guessed that Hammond junior might be the songwriter for the Strokes.
I read about it somewhere that the lead vocalist, above, was the main tune-smith in the band.
**The Free Electric Band
**It never rains in Southern California (both early 70s)
Some of you might have seen Albert Hammond senior on that Phil Coulter show:o during its run last season.

Julian Casabancas(Lead vocals) writes all of the lyrics. On the first two albums he wrote all of the music too but on the new album there is sum input from Nick Valensi and Hammond Junior

Yeah
hehe strange bit of trivia that radiohead had to pay royaltys to Albert Hammond Sr. for the song "Creep" which contained elements of the song "All I Need is the Air that I Breathe" so it would have been about that time that young Albert Jr started going to an exclusive Swiss secondary school so i suppose indirectly you could say Radiohead helped finance one of the Strokes education :)

heard it first time this morning. chorus of 'Razorblade' veering dangerously close by Mandy by Barry Manilow! takes a bit of time to get used though, not an instant classic like Is This It.... but itll grow on me!

Its grown on me. Top album! Is it me or does 15 Minutes sound like a Pogues song? Also Electricityscape is an amazing song.

yeah lot of people said that about 15 minutes!
do you think that "heart in a cage" sounds like passenger by iggy pop?
