Mixed news for Waterford trialists
Waterford United manager Mike Kerley ran the rule over a number of trialists at the weekend. Former Ipswich Town defender Ben Newman played 45 minutes of Saturday’s friendly against Cobh Ramblers and also trained with the squad on Sunday morning.
However, he has returned to England and Waterford will not be pursuing their interest any further. Meanwhile, American centre half Ryan Purtell will continue his trial at the RSC in the coming days after an encouraging performance alongside Chris Deans at the heart of the back four at St Colman’s Park.
