I made a complete mess of it when I went to research Kanu.

wat about ray harford? managed b'burn in the champions league during the 95-96 season. he was born in halifax which sounds fairly english to me? so does that make 4 as opposed to the 2 the observers sloppy journos originally came up with?

from the journalist who wrote the article:

Thank you for getting in touch. The answer given in the paper was Robson
and Baxter. However, I missed out Wilkinson through an oversight. I
remembered Leeds getting knocked out over two legs by Rangers, and
mistakenly thought that was the old European Cup. In fact it was the first
year of the CL, with two knockout rounds BEFORE a group stage. Harford
would have counted but sadly he died three years ago. Keegan and Hodgson
are incorrect. However, several readers have pointed out that Phil Thompson
has a case, for looking after Liverpool when Houllier was ill. I had never
even thought of that, but they might be right. So, four managers all told,
two with CL experience that is slightly tangential.
