Lads would i be right on saying, going on ur plans for your new stadium that the roof does not cover all the seated areas of that stand?

You would be right gael. However the front of the stand is east facing, so the amount of rain that you would get from there would be pretty minimal. Most of it will come in at a slant from the back.

Thank u afconline, i wasnt slangging your stand or anything in fact i think it will be one of the better ones in the country. So many stands have been built in the last few years which belong in the lesser leagues of england in the 1970's. Its like the GAA spending millions on bringing their stadiums from the 20's into the early 80's (see limericks gaelic grounds, paric ui coimh, galway etc) and seeing it as progression. Any stand built with good eleveation (for viewing comfort) no visual obstructions such as floodlights or upright beams (jackman park has 20  floodlight poles at time of typing) and coverd seating (st annes end turners X anyone?) get those few things right and you've got a good stand. I can mame bad ones and why they are bad if anyone has an opinion on one or all. But well done athlone

Battery Rover

That stand that you see being built will hold 2000. When the rest of the ground is finished in 2009 it will be a 6000 capacity all seater.
Plus there will be an admin block as well in the stadium grounds

This month is the plan alright.
Thing is though, we're not stalled waiting for it. Most of the blockwork is complete underneath the stand, and a huge amount of the brickwork is done too. Pretty much most of the left hand side of the stand is done.
The foundations were just dug for an ESB sub station and the turnstyle plaza as well.

What is the full plans for the stadium in Athlone ? Is it just the one stand or do they intend to complete it all the way around ?
1 2,000 seater stand along the wing for Phase 1.
Eventually, another 2,000 on the other wing and
1,000 seater behind each goal

Was in Athlone this morning and took a quick gander at the new ground. The walls underneath the stand are all plastered and there appears to be a new edifice being built just inside the wall, to the right of the pitch and to the left of the stand?? They were putting up girders like you'd see on a roof.

In all likelihood this date will be put back again.
Would it not be a better idea to open the stadium for next season? Because if you open it in sep/oct you will have only a 2 or 3 home games and then the season is over. And with it the momentum.
If it was to be opened in March you could hype it up during the off season plus you would get better players signing for the club if they see the stadium. Also with all the hype you could do a great deal of business with increased season ticket sales, merchandising and sponsorship etc.
Just doesnt make sense to open a new stadium at the end of a season.

It will be the second week in October now as the work will be finished mid september and then there is a bit of tidying up to do. Seats are being installed in the next week or two.
Next season would probably be a better option.

Four big pylons in four sections each are on site. No sign of them going up yet unfortunately, but it shouldn't be long.
Then when the seats go in, it is going to look absolutely class.

Looks like it is really starting to take shape, am I right in assuming its 2,000 seats in the stand that's going up now and will be 6,000 when the whole thing is finished?
Battery Rover
23/08/2006, 7:23 AM
Yeah 2000 seats on either side of the pitch and 1000 at each end. When all is finished it will be EUFA compliant as well.
What I have been trying to find out though is are our floodlights EUFA 1st round proper compliant as if they were we could rent out to teams who make that far. Fair bit off before its finished anyways so not too important now.
