She will compete for Ireland, she's only doing this for the commonwealth games. Which thankfully we're not part of...

She will compete for Ireland, she's only doing this for the commonwealth games.Which you shouldn't have needed to point out because it's in the article. Above there. Not even on a link, right above there. First post in the thread. (Or rather it would be, if I hadn't deleted it.)

One day, in a magical, mystical, wonderful land far, far away, people will actually read the article before posting their, uh, "opinion".

it is a easier competion she is stepping down she is not good enough to compete in top level international or european distance running so she will compete in less competitive competitions

its more like if sheringham he prefers to play 1st team football in the championship rather than being a sub for some premiershipteam or retiring

If she races for Australia in the Commonwealth Games. She's just racing for a different team, at a separate competition she may not be eligible for otherwise.

She's already won medals for another team apart from Ireland.
The Irish Universities in Sheffield in 1991 at the World Student Games.

After all that (http://www.rte.ie/sport/2006/0321/osullivans.html)
Sonia O'Sullivan, who was due to run for Australia at the Commonwealth Games, has lost her battle to overcome a hamstring injury.

The 36-year-old former world champion has pulled out of the women's 5,000 metres set for Friday.

Surely she should've been representing Queenstown anyway. They're still part of the Commonwealth aren't they?

i heard that the injury was just a feign, because she got a bit too much stick in aus, becuase she stated that she would still run for ireland in europe and the world championships.

Apart from Britain not fielding a team in the Commonwealth ( i.e England, Scotland, Wales, The Isle Of Man, Jersey, Guernsey, Alderney and Northern Ireland all field individual teams) that is .
