The second block is the RTE numbers on the Northern EPG, and I think they block all the sport on that even.

They won't be on the UK EPG anytime soon. All talk of an RTE news channel seems to have dried up as well.

RTE1 should go FTA, with all contentious rights issues on RTE2.

There is no reason for TV3 not being FTA now ITV is - I suppose it'll depend on who buys out Canwest. Could well see ITV1 Ireland FTA soon.

Interestingly ITV3 and ITV4 off the Irish EPG from yesterday - whatever is going on there.

There isn't too many on RTE1 anyway. West Wing (soon to finish) and the Wednesday movie are the only one's I can think of. Think of an evening's schedule...

That's the usual day I reckon (open to correction though) - no idea what's on before or after that. Is it Dr Phil or Opra or some other rubbish earlier in the day? Weekend is generally old imports, old movies (even the saturday night one generally old). Very little contentious on RTE1 imo.

The only thing stopping it isn't major rescheduling, it's the crap contract RTE signed with Sky.

RTE1 FTA would give everyone in Ireland RTE1 in widescreen with digital quality without the need to pay sky a sub. It would also give the Irish in the UK/Europe the opportunity to keep abreast of developments at home. Only thing missing is sport, which is never going to happen anyway with Setanta with UK rights.

btw The above is what the UK Irish press should be campaigning for. It would be relatively cheap to do for RTE (epg placement only) and start campaigning now with RTE's contract due to end in 2008.

I personally think it's a waste of time campaigning for the RTE2 and TG4 as they simply buy in too much programming and it would cost RTE millions, plus the sports rights they have.

They should also be targetting TV3, as no reason for that not to be FTA since ITV went that way as they have virtually the same content. It would at least give the expats some news content from Ireland.

The main reason was to re-catogorise. Much better that the "text and t*ts" stations are out of the way with Adult rather than clogging up Entertainment. They were running out of room so had to get the radio stations out of the 101-999 range to free up space.

This is only a sw update/re-organising of the epg. You won't get any new channels.

Oh, and sky didn't get rid of ITVnews. That channel ceased to exist.

This might surprise you amigo but the first thing I did when the Sky revamp happened is remove those channels. You can do that now.

I got Sky for the footie, docs and movies TBH but it irks the hell out of me that I'm putting money in Murdoch's pocket - however small my actual amount is.

One good thing is that he doesn't have full control over BSkyB so they have a little bit of independence. Otherwise his plans to turn Sky News into another Fox "News" would have happened - poor enough as Sky News is too.

I look forward to when the likes of Setanta and others will bid for the History, Nat. Geography etc channels, footie and movie channels. Then I will happily dump Sky.

True - what a pity we can't delete all those sh!te channels like we can delete those adult channels. The growth of those (very profitable) gambling channels has been huge but I read lately that Sky are cramming so many channels into a limited bandwidth** that it's affecting the quality of the pictures.

PVR's are great, just the sky plus boxes (just like the normal digiboxes) are poor examples of the technology. And why do you have to pay to use them? It's a pity the EU couldn't force sky/nds to produce cams that would allow non sky boxes to work with sky subs.

I'm setting up a PC as a PVR. Already have a terrestrial PC card, just waiting to get my quad lnb and then sat card. My DVD player plays mpg files direct, so don't even have to convert my recordings, so memory never an issue either.

Agree with you. It's great to be able to record one's favourite programmes automatically but if they could sort out that pause problem.

Not having to sit through the adverts is great too. No wonder TV companies are worried about losing advertisement money.

LOL regarding Bikini Beach?? What fascinated me about that TBH is how those girls managed to stand through that sh!te for hours on end knowing that so few were watching and having to mouth small talk non stop. Must be something like hosting those shopping channel programmes.
Surprisingly the channel went bust (no pun intended). You'd imagine a gambling channel with a bit of totty added would do well.
