The moment you've all been waiting for, or at least that's what I tell myself :p
I'll post the results of the awards you all voted on in this thread. Due to time constraints, they wont be presented in a powerpoint presentation like last years awards. Instead, I'll post them in this thread. Each post will have the nominations for each award and the winner and I'll start posting them almost straight away, starting with the Best Chant nominations and winner. So in just a moment we will have the results from all of your votes and the 2005 foot.ie award presentation will begin :)
For those who want to skip all of this and just want to see the winners of each award summary in list form, go straight Here (http://www.foot.ie/showpost.php?p=423013&postcount=23)

Best chant....
This was an award that really spread the votes, with numerous nominations so the winner only needed a few votes going it's way. So, here's the nominations...
"CITY - IT WASN'T OVER THE LINE..." Shels fans in the Setanta Cup match v Cork
"We're only here to annoy you" Galway fans to a stewart
"George O' callaghan drinks and drives" Shels fans after Georges charges
"It's just like watching Carlisle" Cork fans to Roddy Collins himself
"Top of the league, having a laugh" Sligo Fans
"The Eircom League is upside down" Shamrock Rovers
"Build me up buttercup" Again, Shamrock Rovers fans
"OOH ARR, GRAHAM KAVANARR" Ireland away to Faroes
"is this the way to athlone town roddy collins is bringing you down is this the way to athlone town the first division waits for you" Sung to Rovers fans
"BSC where's your flag" Rovers fans on the infamous flag incident
"Does your boyfriend do your hair" Derry fans to, no prizes for guessing which referee
"5' 1" you'd like to be 5'1" to Digger the week after Wales, by Bohs fans
"Ollie Byrne's a football hooligan" by various supporters, including Shels own ironically
"Champions league and no Dolan" Cork fans
"It's just like watching Carmarthen" UCD fans v Longford
"Oriel Park is a bouncy Castle" Drogheda fans in the cup match v Dundalk
"Go home, to yer caravan" Sligo Rovers fans signing to Galway United fans
And the winner for the best chant of 2005 is...
"Oriel Park is a bouncy castle" Drogheda United away to Dundalk in their first home match of the season. So spread was the voting, it only needed 3 votes to claim the prize, compared to other categorys where the winner had close to 30.

The second category to be announced will be...
Best Goal
This could include any goal scored by the international team, or any domestic match, and could be based on anything you like, it could be a tap in that is memorable for whatever reason. Again, a wide spread of votes on this one, so lots of nominations and no one pick collecting alot of votes. Anyway, the nominations are...
Joey Ndo v Shamrock Rovers in Dalymount Park
Clon Fortune v Sligo Rovers in the Showgrounds
Declan O'Brien in the cup final against Cork
Pat McCourt v Finn Harps
Pat McCourts Second v Bray
Paul McTirenan v Galway
Wes Hoolahan v Drogheda
Robbie Collins v Rovers, play off second leg
Alan Keely Dundalk
Pat McCourts first v Bray
Robbie Martin v. Shelbourne, league cup semi final
JP Kelly v Athlone in the cup
Robbie Keane v Cyprus
Trevor Molloy v Bohs
Barry Molloy v Cork
Dominic Foley v Drogheda
Glen Crowe v Bohs, Dalymount Park
Paul Finnucane v Dublin City
Liam Kearney v Derry
Andy Reid v Cyprus
Keith Foy's V Galway, inside his own half
Robbie Keane v Israel
And the best goal seen in 2005 was...
Joint winners this time, the award is split between three goals, again like the last category the winning picks collected a mere 3 votes each. Pat McCourt suffering badly from, if anything, scoring too many great goals, he would have won it outright if everyone who voted for his goals v Bray were fully behind one rather than splitting between the two of them, not to mention the goal against Harps also taking home some of the votes. As a result, the three goals in question who take home the award are...
Joey Ndo v Shamrock Rovers
Pat McCourt v Finn Harps
Pat McCourt v Bray, his second goal
McCourt as an individual took home seven votes in total.

22/01/2006, 4:43 PM
And now we move on to an award with a bit less of a spread, always a favourite, it's time for the...
Villian of 2005 award
Not too many suprises here except two expected favourites getting only two votes between themselves, more on that later. This one produced more of a clear winner, with only the first and second placed people getting more than one vote. They got 12 and 6 respectively, can you guess who it is yet? First, the nominations...
George O'Callaghan
Sean Connor
Roddy Collins
Dan Connor
John O'Flynn
Don Givens
Olly Byrne
Dominic Foley
Pat Dolan
Tony Maguire
John Delaney
Paul McKeon
Dermot Keeley
Stephen O'Brien
Felix Healy
And the winner of the probably not too desirable 2005 foot.ie villian of the year award is...
Roddy Collins
Not too many suprises in the winner, the person in second with 6 votes was George O'Callaghan. The real suprises came elsewhere, it wasn't until the 17th vote that Olly Byrne got his sole vote, and not until the 22nd vote that Pat Dolan got his sole vote. John Delaney only taking home one vote could also be considered a suprise, but the winner was anything but. He's never been relegated you know, and he takes home another trophy which will sit nicely beside the All Ireland he'll have within the next 3-4 years.
Slash/ED
22/01/2006, 4:48 PM
And now that we've had the villian, can you guess what's coming next?
Hero(es) of 2005
A less obvious winner here and more of a spread, but again most people here only picked up a single vote. Only three people here picked up more in fact, so here's the nominations, you may notice certain people cropping up again...
Jim Crawford
Alan Murphy
Gavin Whelan
Pat Dolan
Joey Ndo
Joe Gamble
Rafael Cretaro
Roy O'Donovan
Pat Deans
Dermot Keeley
400 club
Shay Given
Damien Richardson
Roddy Collins
Roy Keane
Jimmy Aggrey
Paul Marney
George O'Callaghan
Damien Richardson
Kevin Doyle
Keith Foy
Sean Dillion
Stephen Kenny
Dave Rogers
So Pat Dolan, as much as he's always been a lifelong fan of the villian of the year award, is seen here on this list too, showing the contrasts in opinion people have on the man. Anyway...
The 2005 foot.ie hero of the year is...
Not so much Hero, but Heroes, as Shamrock Rovers own 400 club take home the gold.
Rovers may have gone down but the fans assuming control of the club is still a source of hope for them, and again it's not too big a suprise that the 400 club have also taken over this award. The joint second and third placed goes to Joey Ndo and Shay Given, with the rest of the people picking up just the one vote.
Slash/ED
22/01/2006, 4:54 PM
And from people, to moments, starting with...
The worst moment of 2005
This could include anything from the domestic league to the international team, so again a lot of nominations and a variety of things nominated, but two things were way ahead of the rest in terms of votes. Anyway, here's the nominations...
George O'Callaghans dive to get Dave Crawley sent off
Galway loseing 4-1 to Sligo Rovers
Droghedas preformance away to Finn Harps
Daryl Murphy signing for Sunderland
Shels loseing to Linfield in the Setanta Cup final
Kevin Doyle going to Reading for next to nothing
The Switzerland game and Ireland not reaching the 2006 world cup
Drawing with Dundalk with the worst possible mistake from a goalkeeper ever
Rovers going down
The Belfield referee delayed match shambles
Final whistle last game of the season when Bohs lost 3-0 to Shels and the pitch invasions and missle throwing of the same game
Bray loseing the cup semi to Drogheda
Longford v Carmarthen
Drogheda winning the FAI cup
Derrys winner in the Brandywell agaisnt Shels
watching Limerick FC ‘s new chairman repeatedly make an ass of himself in public
Drogheda loseing 3-2 to Bohs
Loseing Keith Foy to Sligo
Longford postponing Derrys first home game of the season because of Paisleys call up
Finn Harps going down
No prizes for guessing which 'worst moment' nomation was also a strong contender in the 'best moment' award coming up soon. Anyway, lets have the winner...
The worst moment in all of 2005 was...
As I said, two nomations were way ahead of the rest in terms of votes, and in fact ultimately could not be split. So the joint winners are...
The Switzerland game and Ireland not reaching the 2006 world cup
And...
Longford v Carmarthen
Rovers going down was next in line in terms of votes, than Doyle to Reading, the rest only getting one vote between them. So both winners come from embarassment against international opposition and both will unfortunately live long in the memory.
Slash/ED
22/01/2006, 5:00 PM
And so, straight into...
The best moment of 2005
Again, any moment domestic of abroad was up here, so again, lots of different nominations, though this one was more than just a two horse race. Anyway, here's the nominations...
Shels dominating Glentoran away from home
Galway signing Alan Murphy
O'Briens goal v Cork in the cup final/Drogheda winning the cup
Cork v Derry, specifically Kearneys goal
Sligo getting promoted
1-0 up at half time in the first leg of the playoff against Rovers and the PA starts blaring out “I predict a riot”
Dublin City winning promotion/Rovers going down
400 club taking over Rovers
UCDs come back in the league cup semi, Robbie Martins goal
The Belfield referee delayed match shambles
Bray beating Bohs 3-1, last game of the season
Launch of the NLSA
The Judas display the first Shels game at Dalymount Park
Dundalk v Drogheda
Limericks opener drawing a crowd of 2,000
Best moment was being vindicated at the assertion that the international team was full off uncommitted laze bags.
Bray finishing 7th
Sligo knocking Pats out of the cup
Carmarthen home
Stephen O'Flynns goal home to Longford for Derry
Cork stopping Derry winning the league
Glen Crowe scoring the winner against Bohs volleying home from the judas sign on the pitch
And so, Rovers going down was many peoples best and worst moment of 2005, unsuprisingly not many nominations for the boys in green on this front. To the winner...
The best moment in all of the year of 2005 was...
A clear winner this time, the most hated man in Corks goal v Derry City and the resulting long awaited City league win narrowly takes home the award here. A fantastic last game of the season was finally put to rest by Kearney, and Cork went on to celebrate the title.
One vote short was a similar moment for Drogheda fans, with Fabios goal in the cup final and the cup final win narrowly missing out and joint second with Dublin City going up/Rovers going down. The 400 club taking over Rovers was next.
The big suprise was the NLSA launch only got a single vote.
Slash/ED
22/01/2006, 5:05 PM
And now onto the team/invidual awards. Much less spread here in most of them and some very closely faught awards. This is a typical example....
Most improved team of 2005
There was only ever going to be one of two winners here really, and that's reflecting in the fact there's only four nominations, they are...
Derry City
Kilkenny City
Sligo Rovers
Drogheda United
No prixes for guessing the winner was one of the top two. In fact, they took home 28 of the 32 votes in this category, though in the end a clear winner emerged
The most improved team in 2005
Derry City
Ultimately they won by a fairly healthy margin, and their unexpected title challenge taking Cork down to the last day plus league cup win was always going to see to this. So more honours for the class of 2005 up in Derry, it will be interesting to see if they can take it to the next level in 2006. Kilkenny took home second place after a remarkable turnaround by, then, Pat Scullys men, Sligo third.
Slash/ED
22/01/2006, 5:11 PM
Some individual awards now...
Best defender of 2005
Colm Tresson
Danny Murphy
Dan Murray
Alan Bennett
Peter Hutton
Owen Heary
Dave Rogers
John Frost
Clive Delaney
Cork and Derry built their title challenge on their defence, with 3 of Corks back four up for best defender and two of Derrys, they dominate this category. Shels also have two nominations, with one each for Pats and Bray, but it's a real indication of the strenght Cork had at the back. The only suprise is Horgan wasn't nominated.
And so, the best defender over the course of 2005 is...
Peter Hutton
This one was very close, with the leader constantly changing hands but eventually pizza takes it home. Corks defence here almost suffered from being too strong as alot of votes were spread between their nominations, but nobody will really argue with Hutton taking home the award, he was a class act at the back and a real foundation for the Derry team to be built on.
Second place and narrowly missing out was Dan Murray, joint third went to full backs Owen Heary and Danny Murphy.
Slash/ED
22/01/2006, 5:18 PM
With a defence built around Hutton, who out of all of the talent in the league would you have in front?
Best Mid fielder over the 2005 season
Gavin Whelan
Joe Gamble
Pat McCourt
Wesley Hoolahan
George O'Callaghan
Liam Kearney
Joey Ndo
Paul Crowley
Ciaran Martyn
Again, Cork dominateing this award with three of their mid field 4 up for nomination, showing how highly rated their team is as invidiuals. But this counting against the Leesiders last time out, so who will take home the award this time?
The best mid fielder over the 2005 season was...
Joe Gamble
A bigger winning margin this time, and real credit to Joe to win with two others from his own mid field in contentionm but Gamble added the steel needed beside O'Callaghans guile and really helped push Cork on where before they were a little light in mid field.
Second place also to Leeside, his mid field partner George O'Callaghan. Third split between Rovers and Derry with Pat McCourt.
Slash/ED
22/01/2006, 5:21 PM
But who to put away the chances?
Best striker over the 2005 season
A quick glance at the goal scoring charts would tell you there was only going to be two winners here, and that's how it's turned out to be. There was only three nominations, and the third nomination got only the one nominating vote, so really it was between the first two, but here's the nominations...
Mark Farren
Jason Byrne
Pat McCourt
Making McCourt the only person to get nominated in two positions here. But who took it home?
The best striker over the 2005 season...
Jason Byrne
To add to his third successive golden boot in three Shelbourne seasons, Byrne is again top dog as far as strikers is concerned, but Farren ran him close here and in terms of goals scored. The leader changed hands constantly until Byrne opened up an ultimately comfortable winning margin. Farren took home second and by default McCourt gets another bronze.
Slash/ED
22/01/2006, 5:26 PM
With a team of invidiauls though, you need someone to hold them together. Who would be the man in the dugout?
The best manager over the 2005 season
Less clear cut here, so straight to the nominations...
Stephen Kenny
Pat Scully
Pat Fenlon
Damien Richardson
Sean Connor
Paul Doolin
So, the cup winner, the league winner, the league cup winner and the division one winner all nominated and Pat Scully too, who's turnaround in fortune with Kilkenny was nothing short of amazing. But which one takes home the only gold they really wanted?
The best manager over 2005 was...
Stephen Kenny
Probably not too suprising, but his winning margin was still impressive, with him having nearly four times the votes of second placed Richardson. Two big suprises here, one was Richardson didn't recieve a single vote until the 17th nomination in this category! Second, was Scully only got two votes in total, though that was enough to see him claim third.
Slash/ED

We've had the good, now it's time for the bad and the downright pugly...
Total donkey of 2005
Not one for the mantlepeice...Here's the list of shame...
George O'Callaghan
Monaghan Uniteds entire team
Dave Crawley
Rodney Jack
Stephen Brennan
Trevor Molloy
Jimmy Aggrey
Pat Deans
Martin Cameron
Mark Rooney
Roddy Collins
Robbie Dunne
Sean Cooney
Thomas Morgan
Richie Baker
Dan Connor
Jason Gavin
Glen Crowe
David O'Dowd
Dundalk FC
Declan Boyle
Ian Rossiter
Fingers crossed all round I'm sure...
The Total Donkey of 2005 was...
Jimmy Aggrey
Who else!? The Eircom Leagues Titus Bramble taking home the only thing approaching an award he will get near after his brief but all too memorable spell in Ireland.
Roddy Collins probably won a few fans by taking Rovers down, enough so that he will have to settle for second here, joint with Dave Crawley.
Slash/ED
22/01/2006, 5:34 PM
From total donkey, to the not altogether more desirable...
Most disappointing performer of 2005
Darragh Mcguire
Martin Symanski
Trevor Molloy
Glen Crowe
Eric Lavine
Pat Deans
Alan Moore
Andy Myler
James Keddy
Willo McDonagh
Stephen McGuinness
Dave Crawley
Roddy Collins
Shamrock Rovers
Robbie Hedderman
Sean Kelly
Finn Harps
One, very very clear winner here. You probably already know
The most disappointing performer of 2005...
Glen Crowe
He raced away from the opposition here in a way he seemingly did not manage at all in the 2005 season, with a pretty spectacular winning margin. Second place also resides in Tolka Park and with a fellow Irish International, Alan Moore, though he must share it with Trevor Molloy.
Slash/ED
22/01/2006, 5:38 PM
Before the final stretch of awards, we have the...
Best save of 2005
This one was a three horse race really, but quite a few nominations, and here they are.
Alan Gough v Dundalk
Packie Holden v Derry City
Michael Devine v Prague
Shay Given v Cyprus
Michael Devine away to Djurgardens
Shay Given v France, Zidanes free kick
Barry Murphy v Shels
Forde v Cork
Stephen O'Brien penalty save v Hunt of Bohs
Shay Given v Israel
Chris O'Connor v Newcastle
David Forde v Longford, league cup semi
And the best save of 2005 goes to...
Shay Given
As our campaign progressed, Given became our most talked about player which frankly said it all, but he usually came up with the goods and so he takes home the best save award. Joint second went to Michael Devine in Prague and Barry Murphys stunning save in Tolka Park from Jason Byrne for Rovers. The rest recieved only their nominating vote.
Slash/ED
22/01/2006, 5:40 PM
And so, it's the final stretch, the important categorys really start now, though we're starting with the award that captured the population of foot.ies imagination the least, taking home the least amount of votes. But still...
The division one young player of the year award
Here's the nominations...
Keith Foy
Barry Moran
Phillip Sheppard
Faz Kudozovic
Robbie Kelleher
Tadgh Purcell
And the 2005 young player of the year is...
They all are! Every single person taking home only the one vote, with a mere 6 votes in the entire category. This makes them all joint winners...
Slash/ED
22/01/2006, 5:45 PM
But what of the top flight?
The premier division young player of the year award
Alot more interest in this one it's fair to say....Here's the nominations
Joe Gamble
Killian Brennan
Liam Kearney
David Tyrrell
Mark Farren
Paddy McCourt
Gary Dicker
JP Kelly
Roy O'Donnoavan
Barry Murphy
Gavin Whelan
Chris O'Connor
Dean Delaney
This one was alot closer, right to the end it was between four people and the lead was constantly changing hands, so who takes it home?
The 2005 EL Premier young player of the year is...
Another joint winner, though not all of them this time, it's split between two men represnting the first and second teams in the league.
Liam Kearney
Pat McCourt
Then came another Leesider, O'Donnavan, and then another Derry man, Mark Farren, showing the foundation of their title challenging sides was a young one, and that bodes well for them. All four were in contention right to the end.
Slash/ED
22/01/2006, 5:48 PM
But what of all ages? Back to the first division again....
The First Division player of the year award
The nominations are...
Ger McCarthy
Kieran O'Reilly
Paul McTirenan
Ciaran O Reilly
Aidan Price
David McGill
Michael McNamara
A Price
Kupono Low
Sean Flannery
This one was far less competitive than the last one with one clear winner, but who is it?
The 2005 first division player of the year is...
Kieran O'Reilly, a huge winning margin for him here.
The distant runners up award was shared between Paul McTirenan and Kupono Low
Slash/ED
22/01/2006, 5:52 PM
Three awards exclusive to the boys in green now before we get to the big one, starting off with...
Best uncapped Irish player
Not too many nominations here and really, a clear winner and most of you probably already know who that is. But here's the nominations...
Wesley Hoolahan
Kevin Doyle
Joey O'Brien
Stephen Ireland
Owen Heary
Noel Hunt
Lee Trundle
So three ex eircom leaguers and one current one amoung the votes, but who takes it home?
The best uncapped Irish player
Kevin Doyle
Never really in question, robbed from Cork by Reading for next to nothing and how they have benefitted. He's taking the first division (championship my arse) by storm since signing for Reading and is all set to be a premiership player next year, having spent the start of 2005 scoring freely for Cork City in the start of their title winning campaigin, something which earned him a championship medal to add to the one more than likely heading his way in june.
Ex Shels man Wes Hoolahan comes in second place, current Shels player Owen Heary completes a hat trick of sorts for the EL with the bronze.
Slash/ED
22/01/2006, 5:55 PM
A few from the last one will fancy their chances here...
International young player of the year
This was based on performances for any Irish team from u21 down, so who's in contention?
Kevin Doyle
Eddie Nolan
Paddy McCarthy
Willo Flood
Joey O'Brien
Aiden McGeady
Stephen Ireland
Roy O'Donnavan
Darren Potter
Will it be a double for Doyle or will someone else claim the crown?
The 2005 Irish international young player of the year award
Kevin Doyle
A double for Doyle indeed, another huge winning margin for him too for that matter. Current Cork City man Roy O'Donnavan takes the silver, the rest share bronze with one vote each, emphasising the dominance of Kevin Doyle in this category.
Slash/ED
22/01/2006, 5:58 PM
But who for the seniors?
The Irish International player of the year
I can tell you, this was the award most completley and utterly one sided. No real suprises for who takes it then, but here's the nominations...
Shay Given
Richard Dunne
Kenny Cunningham
Clinton Morrison
So we know one person completley dominated, but who?
The Irish International player of the year award for 2005
Shay Given
Yes, no shocks, but his winning margin was emphatic. He recieved 27 votes, the rest of the people only getting one. The fact that his win is so emphatic is a credit to Given who has long emered as an inspirational figure for us, but the fact it's so emphatic also shows how pathetic our performances had gotten by the end of the campaign that our keeper is the only person worthy of more than one vote.
No votes for Duff and Keane could be considered a suprise and also a depressing indication especially in the case of Damien Duff who in years gone by would be a shoe in for this award.
Slash/ED
22/01/2006, 6:07 PM
And so, only one category remains, straight into it...
The Eircom League premier division player of the year award
Another contensious one, there were many candadates here, but ultimately there was one clear winner. But before we get there, who was nominated?
Colm Tresson
George O'callaghan
Danny Murphy
Joe Gamble
Pat McCourt
Peter Hutton
Ciaran Martyn
Mark Farren
Tony McDonnell
Michael Devine
Roy O'Donnavan
Jason Byrne
Billy Woods
Kevin McHugh
So 14 nominations, a whopping ten of them now playing for either Cork or Derry. Shels only getting one nomination would be considered somewhat of a suprise, but that nomination did take home the golden boot, so who would be considered the best player over the course of the season?
The winner of the 2005 Eircom League premier league player of the year, as voted by you the voters...
George O'Callaghan
Oddly, the man not considered the best mid fielder in the league is (Second to team mate Joe Gamble), by the same people, considered the best player outright. Never the less, O'Callaghan who took home a league winners medal in 2005 rounds it off with the only player of the year award worth a damn. A contender for villan of the year and a controversal figure, nobody can doubt the mans talent, and it is his talent that has seen him stand above all others in the eircom league according to the registered users of foot.ie.
In second place, Joe Gamble shared with Farren. A real indication of the quality of Corks mid field with Gamble and O'Callaghan, meanwhile Farren finishes way ahead of Byrne in the overall player of the year list despite finishing comfortabley behind him in the best striker list. Confusing perhaps, but Farrens goals really helped lift Derry up the league and was one of their key men in their rise to the top. Gamble was immense beside O'Callaghan and with the best mid fielder award can consider himself unlucky to take only a silver here, but few can argue that O'Callaghan merits the award and it is he who takes home the gold, just like he did on the last day of the 2005 league campaign.

So I just wanted to say, a big thanks to everyone who took the time out to vote or share ideas for the awards and to the mods who supported them with a sticky and an announcement. Hope you all enjoyed them, some suprises in there but overall Cork and Derry predictabley dominating most of the awards after their fantastic seasons. O'Callaghan shouldn't have got player of the year. Defenders rarely get such awards so I underdstand Pizza not getting it. Jason Byrne should have got that one.
Surprised the NLSA didn't get the best moment of the year award.
"George O' callaghan drinks and drives" Shels fans after Georges charges

Slash .... that is excellent man, fair play to you.
Loo0ks like it went well so yeah !?!
Yeah I was delighted with the response voting wise.
Cheers for all the comments lads, it didn't really take much at all. The only real time was in doing this thread but I was delighted for the distraction from the Man U Liverpool game anyway, keeping track of the votes was straight forward enough.
Anyway, thanks again to all who took part, hopefully it'll run as smoothly next year.
