Two Monaghan United players have had their talents recognised in recent days with call ups to the Republic of Ireland Under 18’s Schools team and Northern Ireland Under 18’s Schools team. Ger O’Callaghan will represent the Republic of Ireland Under 18’s Schools team in upcoming friendlies and Stephen Finnegan will play with the Northern Ireland Under 18’s Schools teams in a friendly against Australia on the 23rd January. Despite being Under-18, both players have been regular starters for the United first team last season as well as being key players in John Heffernan's Under-21 squad.
There is also a friendly planned for the 8th of February between the Republic of Ireland and Northern Ireland Schools teams which would see club mates O’Callaghan and Finnegan battling it out on opposition teams. More details to follow.
