I'm assume Mick goes with 4-4-2 & not reverting to a Jack Charlton 4-5-1.

I'd go for Kinsella, but it looks like Holland has it nailed cause of k's injuries

i'd also go with kinsella, and i think kinsella will get the gig also.
whats this about him being injured?

he had a bad season with injuries....in and out of the charlton side, and this has allowed Holland in

I was talking to a relation in Holland after the first game. The Dutch only rated four Irish players, Keane x2, Carr and Kinsella. Even they found the mix of him game impressive. He is a great passer of the ball and a cleverer footballer than Holland.

It's a very close call - I'll go for Holland as he has had a solid season with Ipswich despite their relegation - always played well in every game I saw. Plus he has an eye for goal.

Holland, Kinsella and Keane. Championship Manager 5-3-2 Attacking:

Duff Keane

^ Kinsella ^
| |
| Keane Holland |
Kilbane Finnan

O'Shea O'Brien Babb

Given

Drop Harte, Kilbane is a better defender than him anyway. Kinsella as our attacking midfielder. The team always looks better going forward when Kinsella is given a bit of an attacking role.

brine2 - if McCarthy resigns please don't offer your services to the FAI - this side is a recipe for disaster. Firstly I wouldn't have Babb near a testimonial team. Secondly neither O'Shea or O'Brien play in back threes. Midfield is our strongest area - do we need to play an extra man there? Finally 3-5-2 for Ireland doesn't work - remember Macedonia

IMO, Kinsella will do far more for the team than Holland

It's not 3-5-2, it's 5-3-2. O'Neill's Celtic tactics, with Kilbane and Finnan in the Petta/Agathe roles. In my opinion neither Holland or Kinsella are worth dropping, so a system that allows both to play must be worth a look at.

Kinsella is a much better player then Holland- also he doesn't avail of any opportunity he gets to show how British he is like the latter.

and Brine2... Babb? he's not even in the squad...

... in fact his commitment to his new job at the McDonald's drive in would probably have ruled him out of the world cup anyway

Phil Babb has had an superb season at Lisbon. He has played in the Champions league, and was the outstanding defender in Lisbon's league and cup double. On current form, he is by far the best defender Ireland has. To think we are stuck with Dunne, Harte and Breen while he stays behind is a disgrace. Why has McCarthy treated him so differently than Kennedy? I think McCarthy has done a great job to get us to the finals, but underneath it all, he is still an ignoramus and a small man. What matters for Ireland is putting the best team you can out on the pitch, and this will not happen at the world cup...:(

I know Babb is not in the squad. Neither is O'Shea. I was just naming my ideal 11.

Apparently the manager of Sporting Lisbon, the league and cup winners in Portugal, who played in the Champions league, includes him in the team, not just the squad. It has not been repoted anywhere that the same team manager, Laszlo Boloni, has been remanded to a mental institution or the care of a phsyciatrist.

Breen : a few games for Coventry.
Dunne : struggling in the Man City setup.
Cunningham : Wimbledon
Harte : struggling. Leeds.
Kelly : cant get a game at Leeds.
Staunton : struggling at Aston Villa

O'Brien : playing well at Newcastle, little international experience.
Finnan : playing well at Fulham, little international experience,.

Babb : league/cup double winner at Sporting Lisbon. Keeping Beto (Portugese international) out of the team or position. Played in the Champions league this season. Very expierenced at international and WC level.

Even someone as thick about football as I am, can see that there is a big difference here......

No reason why Babb didn't at least get a run out in a few of the friendlies.
